Jerky treats linked to deaths of 1,000 dogs

Pet jerky treats, mostly imported from China, are being linked to more than 1,000 deaths in dogs, more than 4,800 complaints about animal illness, and, for the first time, sickness in three people who ate the products, federal health officials said Friday, according to nbcnews.com.

But Food and Drug Administration officials say they still can't identify a specific cause for the reported illnesses or deaths, despite seven years of tests and investigation.

And would any of us be surprised to learn that US raised chickens are being eaten by the Chinese and they are sending their contaminated chickens back to us, with the USDA’s “Product of the USA” on them, of course. Who trusts this government?

My little sky terrier seems to have no problem digesting the carrots and our vet has said it’s no problem for him.

I wouldn’t give my dog processed treats when a good natural treat like baby carrots is a far better and more healthy choice.

I sell doggy treats for a living. ONLY use American made products. I could have imported many times and made a ton of money but haven’t ever for this exact reason

I’m so glad CONgress has decided to let a China process our chicken. What could go wrong?

I had someone give me a goody bag of treats for my dog a few Christmases ago. I threw the entire bag away because everything in it was made in China and it stunk to high heaven. I give my dog table scraps only along with his kibble.

China is a third-world nation which has zero respect for human life. I make sure to never buy anything made in China. It’s hard though.

Why anyone would want to buy ANYTHING made or manufactured in China is beyond me. Chinese stuff is CRAP!

Don’t ever buy packaged chicken nuggets. They are now most likely processed in China, but may bear a USA tag. Would you please tell me how chickens can be slaughtered here, sent to China to be processed and then returned back here to be sold?

Ours comes right off of the boat as soon as one of our local fisherman in Galveston gets everything tied down and set up to handle business. Just one of the benefits of living on the Gulf.

83,300,000 pet dogs with 1,000 deaths allegedly by these jerky treats.

.0012% of the pet dog population.

“If they do, no chicken based foods will be allowed in this house.”

It’s a done deal, starting this June I believe. To be distributed to fast-food restaurants in the form of fingers, nuggets etc.

We’ll ship our FDA inspected/approved top grade chicken to China for ‘processing’.

China wheels in it the front door and then directly out the back into waiting trucks.

Chinese factory then brings in diseased, sick & dying birds to replace ours and sends them back to us with “Made in USA” stamped on the package.

What could go wrong?

Sounds like a real opportunity for some chicken manufacturer to take over the industry simply by differentiating their product with a label the clearly, unambiguously, an honestly states "PROUDLY RAISED AND PROCESSED IN AMERICA".

But that's probably against the law...

The same way it made economic sense for dirty laundry to be shipped from San Fransisco to China for laundering in the 1850’s.

Tomatoes should be fine, but may contain too much acid for your dog’s gut.

Here’s a handy list of toxic foods for dogs:
