A customer satisfaction survey ranking smartphones features and desirability in South Korea awarded Apple's iPhone 5s a widening lead over domestic rivals including LG, Samsung and Pantech.
Marketing Insight, a South Korean firm that tracks users satisfaction rankings across a variety of factors, compared Apple's iPhone 5s against Samsung's latest Galaxy S5, LG G Pro2, Nexus 5 and other models. While Apple overall was significantly above average across every category, Samsung was ranked below average in design, display, processing speed, multimedia speed, size and weight, usability, response to touch, latest tech and UI design.
Samsung's new Galaxy S5 flagship was ranked below iPhone 5s across the board, but it also came in below average in comparison to other Android products in terms of design, and ended up in sixth place overall, behind 2012's iPhone 5, the last two generations of LG's G2 flagship and the Google-branded Nexus 5, which is also built by LG.
The survey involved 9,397 consumers who purchased a smartphone during the 6 months between October 2013 and April 2014. "The gap of satisfaction between Apple and domestic products has rather increased," noted a report by the Korean language Ohmy News.
"The satisfaction score of Apple products was 798 out of 1000," the site noted, "which made Apple take the first place with almost 200 points of gap between domestic products. LG, Samsung and Pantech had gained 609, 600, and 577 respectively, which are of more or less the same score."
The survey noted that nearly 90 percent of iPhone users reported being "satisfied" or "very satisfied" with their purchase, while only about 50 percent of domestic makers got a similar ranking.
The site quoted Marketing Insight as observing, "Considering that the products satisfaction usually decreases as the longer time has based since the product released, the score of iPhone 5s is amazing."
The report further noted, "Galaxy S5 obtained a humiliating result as it failed to get ahead of LG G Pro2 in any sector in the comparison between the representative models of Samsung and LG, released this year."
Samsung recently sacked its head of mobile design in the wake of the Galaxy S5's cool reception. The company took great pains to cherry pick lines from lines from lackluster reviews for its latest ad, and failed to impress users with a company blog posting describing the phone's inspiration.
Apple takes great pride in reporting awards for customer satisfaction, including its first place standings in the latests American rankings by J.D. Power and Associates, which listed iPhone as the top smartphone on all four top U.S. carriers and iPad highest in overall consumer satisfaction for tablets.
Last October, Apple's chief executive Tim Cook stated, "We're winning with our products in all the ways that are most important to us: in customer satisfaction, in product usage and in customer loyalty," drawing a contrast with the market share and volume shipment or activation numbers focused upon by Apple's critics and competitors.
Never seen anyone in Korea with an iphone. They all use Samsung, LG etc.

It really is hard to go wrong when you buy Samsung products.
Interesting. My main source for my statement is just what I see on Korean TV, and I’ve never seen an Apple product, but maybe that is just media bias.

I have an iPad, so it took a little while to get used to my S5.
It’s my first smartphone, but I’m happy with my purchase!

My first smartphone was an iPhone. It was nice, but when I replaced it with an Android, my iPhone friends acted just like cultists would act to a person who had left the cult.
I still have my iPod and iPad though, so I’m not a victim of this psychosis you are talking about.

I would say apple is more of a conformist symbol.
Oh? That's surprising. Apple just topped 800 Million iOS devices sold and 600 million iTunes accounts with credit cards attached. . . that is quite a large "cult!," don't you think?
People have been claiming that Apple users are members of a cult since 1984 when the Macintosh came out and John Dvorak questioned who in his right mind would use one of those funny things called a mouse. . . and users were under 1 million. Mac users are now over 100 million. . . and now you've transferred the sobriquet to iPhone and iOS users whose numbers are approaching one BILLION!

And, Bryanw92, of those 800 MILLION cult members, 500 MILLION have purchased iPhones.
Without Much Fanfare, Apple Has Sold Its 500 Millionth iPhone
Forbes magazine — 3/25/2014 @ 8:12AMApple has been known to mark big numerical milestones, celebrating the 50 billionth download from its App Store last May and the 30th anniversary of the Mac earlier this year. But it appears to have quietly let a big one pass within the last few weeks as somewhere on earth, the 500 millionth iPhone was sold. Despite much consternation in the media that the high-end of the market is reaching saturation, this data point demonstrates that iPhone sales continue to accelerate for Apple even if the rate of that acceleration is less breathtaking than it had been in the past.
Once upon a time
When Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, Steve Jobs did something rare for the company. He put out a sales goal of 10 million for 2008. There were doubters. “They’re going to have a difficult time” making it, Edward Snyder, an analyst at Charter Equity Research, told the New York Times in March of that year. Snyder pointed out Nokia sold more phones in a week than Apple had sold up to that point. And he looked like a genius when sales were dreadful in the next quarter — the worst ever for the iPhone with just 717,000 sold. (Apple, incidentally, sells that many iPhones every 2 days currently. By 2012 Snyder was calling Nokia a “dinosaur” and, to complete the reversal of fortune, Apple sold more iPhones last quarter than Nokia has sold Lumias ever.) Oh, and back in 2008, Apple exceeded Jobs forecast with 13.7 million phones sold.
iPhone ServedStill, it took a while to reach 100 million. In fact, the iPhone was on sale close to 4 years before it happened, sometime around February 2011. (All the estimates for the month the milestones occurred assume sales were approximately linear throughout the quarter, except where noted.) From there, though, iPhone sales really began to take off. It took just one year to reach 200 million, very likely in the middle of February 2012.
The 300 millionth iPhone was sold before the calendar closed on 2012, though Apple’s fiscal year had moved into 2013 as the company’s financial reporting is based on a year ending in September. The big sale was very likely in December that year because while Apple finished with 47.8 million iPhones sold and a cumulative total of 318.8 million, holiday shopping likely makes that quarter “lumpier” than others. It’s safe to say Apple had a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas as it took less than 10 months to sell 100 million iPhones.
Happily ever after?
But 2013 would mark further acceleration. Number 400 million was right around the end of July; very close to 8 months later. Making the estimate for the half-billionth iPhone is a bit fraught as we don’t have sales figures from Apple for the current quarter. Analysts are mixed, with Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley looking for 42 million as Forbes’ contributor Chuck Jones noted and the consensus forecast around 38 million. The consensus would have placed the milestone sale around March 8 given that entering the quarter Apple had sold 472 million iPhones. So even if it proves a bit high as it did last quarter, we’ve crossed the point where it’s safe to assume that Apple has sold 500 million smartphones in less than 7 years. And the most recent 100 million took somewhere between 2-6 weeks less than the previous 100 million did.
We’ll have better perspective on how much the trend is gaining steam when Apple reports its quarterly numbers a month from now, but there are reasons to believe it isn’t done yet. Rumors about a larger-screen iPhone 6 later this year are likely to bring about a significant number of upgrades as well as allow Apple to reach the portion of the market that wanted an iPhone but didn’t consider one because of the display. Further, recent moves in emerging markets to re-launch the iPhone 4 and offer a less expensive iPhone 5c suggest the company will compete somewhat more aggressively on price even though it will almost certainly ignore calls for a truly cheap product.
The launch of the next iPhone seems likely to again fall in September, despite numerous rumors placing it earlier in summer. But either way, the 600 millionth iPhone will arrive very near the end of Apple’s fiscal year and around what would be the typical launch window. It wouldn’t be entirely shocking to see it arrive with the opening weekend sales of the new iPhone, in fact. And if you want to place a long bet, the billionth iPhone seems likely to arrive before the calendar turns to 2017. Just don’t quote me on that.

Total number of iPads sold to date are approximately 220 million.
Total number of iPod touches sold to date are approximately 150 million.
TOTAL NUMBER of iOS devices sold to date are approximately 890 million!
So, adding in the approximately 80 million Macintosh users, a number between 600 million and almost ONE BILLION PEOPLE (assuming some own multiple devices) are members of this cult? Is that what you want people to believe? I think you better re-evaluate your perceptions. Maybe you should actually TRY an Apple product before you repeat your insult to perhaps almost ONE BILLION PEOPLE. . . you are outnumbered by those you are insulting. . . and, just perhaps, they know something you don't.
