Too much potassium can build up in elderly due to decreased kidney function. This has a negative impact on the heart and other functions of the body.

I believe that entirely. Everything degenerates with age.

So exercise becomes even more important with age.
When one sweats, one loses salts including potassium.
I am convinced only reason I have avoided heart problems
is regular walking exercise. My father and uncles all succumbed to heart disease, and I believe lack of exercise was the main cause.
