In my adult life I have come to find that in movies special effects are the least interesting element for me. Its the story, the acting and the depth of characters that draws me in, and the three most recent films had none of those things at all.
After Star Wars it seems most of the movies that have been produced learned the wrong lesson. In my opinion Hollywood saw the great special effects of Star Wars and thought that was what made it the gigantic hit it became so they just piled on the effects, and with the advent of CGI they totally left out the acting as well as the plot and story lines. I stopped watching science fiction movies and became quite jaded and that is tough because I was a big science fiction fan back then. I do read a few books and that has kept me from completely leaving science fiction altogether.
