I was a teenager in the Air Force when the first Star Wars movie came out. I loved that movie and the two sequels. They had the right amount of special effects combined with a good story and real actors.

After Star Wars it seems most of the movies that have been produced learned the wrong lesson. In my opinion Hollywood saw the great special effects of Star Wars and thought that was what made it the gigantic hit it became so they just piled on the effects, and with the advent of CGI they totally left out the acting as well as the plot and story lines. I stopped watching science fiction movies and became quite jaded and that is tough because I was a big science fiction fan back then. I do read a few books and that has kept me from completely leaving science fiction altogether.

Same here except for one: Serenity.

I don’t have TV and when I tried to rent the movie, the guy at the rental store said I needed to see some of the TV show first. I ended up buying it on DVD, Then I saw the movie.

It is one of the few Sci-Fi Gems for people who read sci-fi. The character development is some of the best I’ve seen. Period.
