I don’t care for the NFL’s stance, but this has nothing to do with free speech.
The play is free to say what he wants.
His employer is free to hold the player accountable.
Oh I'm sorry, was he using a Dolphin's computer and Internet connection while he was playing a game for them? This has everything to do with free speech.
and we’re free to condemn the NFL for their hypocrisy.
And when every business does it, all employees are silenced. Isn’t that the equivalent of no freedom of speech?
You’re right of course but my instinctual reaction seein the photo on Drudge was the same as Jones expressed. Well, Jones was far more restrained in his language than I was. I feel for the guy getting nailed for a very understandable expression of disgust.
“His employer is free to hold the player accountable.”
Maybe. Many state and federal laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of religious belief. If a player’s views on homosexuality are an expression of religious belief, punishing the player for expressing those views could be a violation of the law.
Nothing to do with free speech? Are you for real?
I suppose when they come knocking on your door, you’ll say the same thing.
And they will.
His employer is free to hold the player accountable.
...so by your lights, should my employer find out that I made highly negative statements, from my armchair at home, with other people present, about Michael Sam tonguing his boyfriend on TV, said employer would be justified in firing me for misrepresenting company policy...
...hopefully you never run for office...
Hey, brownsfan, I bet I have been one longer than you, and I say a great big
BULLSHIT
To you ‘not free speech’ post.
Larry Craig had a wide stance and he wasn't even a football player.
Sure it’s a free speech question. The most powerful institutions in the country — the media, Hollywood and liberal corporate elites — combine to keep their victims out of the public square. The public shaming is backed by the highest authorities in the land — such as the president of the United States.
It does not have to be a legal constitutional matter. But the effect on the man is the same. He is silenced and afraid.
