A suspect smashed a car into an Apple store in Berkeley early Friday morning and made off with merchandise, police said.
Berkeley police responded around 2:52 a.m. to a report of an alarm from the Apple store at 1823 Fourth St. and discovered a car inside the store surrounded by glass debris.
Officers checked the vehicle and found it was empty, but noticed signs of prowl inside the business.
Officers conducted a search of the business but did not find any suspects. An investigation revealed that several Apple products were stolen, including several laptops and iPhone.
McDonald's Tests Seasoned French Fries in U.S. AppleInsider.com posted pictures of the aftermath of the crash, which showed that the car aimed at the store's front doors, damaging them and the metal security gate.
Based on the information officers have at this point, it appears the suspect deliberately drove the vehicle into the store in order to burglarize the business. The store remained closed today as workers tried to repair the damage.A suspect drove through the glass windows of the Apple store in Berkeley early Friday morning, May 9, 2014, and made off with store merchandise, police said. Some Apple store employees could be seen helping customers with Genius Bar appointments on the sidewalk. A few customers described the burglary as "brazen."
"This is not the kind of crime we normally see for sure in Berkeley, in this part of Berkeley, it's definitely disappointing," said Berkeley resident Pam Gray.
Vehicular smash-and-grabs have been reported at other Apple stores around the world, including and the company'sTemecula, Calif., store.
Surveillance video from the Temecula Apple Store shows a BMW smashing into the store's glass doors and plouging down display tables, a man in a mask grabbing as many devices as possible.

Sounds just like the Berkeley mentality at work to me. Gosh darn Amish ping too.
If Microsoft had freestanding stores, they’d be crashing into them out of sheer murderous rage.

And we would have more broken windows
Was this guy after Apple gear, or did he just have the late night munchies?
GMTA
Must have been an Apple fan boy.
They should have waited till the new iPhone 6 & tablets came out...
Why, it almost sounds as if Berkeley is segregated. How can that be, in such a vaunted vale of progressivity?
the perps were too stupid to turn the auto around....and use a low gear to get back OUT through the gate
amazing

One rotten Apple spoils the whole barrel!!!
There are Microsoft stores, one near me.

What flavors?
Having designed numerous logos over the years, I’ve always thought the semiotics of that Windows logo to be hilariously appropriate. Looks like somebody just flung it in frustration and the panes shattered.
An actual freestanding store instead of a mall kiosk?
Uh oh.
The didn’t use sapphire glass for their windows?
Apple, what could you be thinking?
If that were true, why aren’t you there smashing windows right now?
Which costs more, the BMW or the products stolen?
Surely the driver didn’t steal enough stuff to match the price of the car.
The car must be stolen.
