I did it. I got an electric car. A Nissan Leaf.
Whatever the origins, the confluence of factors made it absurd not to. Buyers get a $7500 credit off federal taxes. Georgia offers $5000 off purchase or lease. Power usage costs about $25/mo (vs gas at $150-300). That, plus negotiating, makes a 2 year lease net cost $0, if not negative. That I was driving a '98 POS facing major repairs, plus legislative movements reconsidering the incentives, made it a must-do.
If you're in a state with similar incentives, and have any reason at all to get another car, do it.
Environmentalism? Reducing pollution et al is a good thing, but as I was otherwise looking at a Jeep Wrangler, not a major factor. Taxation/redistribution? Getting mine $$$ back is a good thing. If they're gonna legislate it, use it.
Just a happy new nifty car owner here, had to share. Get your free car now if you can.
Free??????????????????????
Care to answer the question I asked you way back in #47?
Don’t ask pointed questions.....!!
Wait until they start taxing you by the mile instead of through the gas tax. And believe me, they will.
I don’t take any tax deductions. and i don’t put up fake threads to shill for government/socialism on a conservative site like YOU do (”oh yes less all be good little sheep and take the great bounty that the gov is giving” ). that’s all bs. why do you choose to post this on a conservative site ?
i will also pay the liberty tax instead of signing up for obamacare
go sign up for your free obamacare, free gov housing ( the projects) enjoy being a slave
I am not a threat to you. i’m a little individual. the government , the IRS, that is a threat to you
you are a democrat/liberal/socialist shilling for YOUR God , government/socialism
your attitude enables the growth of this monster called government that is devouring us. are you liberals proud?
excellent Point. REAL freepers rule. they will put GPS on all of us and tax us by the mile . it’s coming.
these socialist cretins only see the word “free” and they enable the growth of government monster which will bite them eventually. idiots they are.
instead of fighting government with all their might they shill for its growth on a conservative site and attack me for pointing out their foolishness
Oh, I have no problem with burning oil/coal for my lifestyle needs. Had not this EV deal come along, I was seriously eyeing a Jeep Wrangler with lots of cylinders and horrible gas milage.
And no, conservatism does not equate to wantonly trashing the planet, and taking reasonable steps to care for the environment is not anathema to conservatism. Note the root word: “conserve”. Reducing/eliminating dependence on foreign oil is a good thing. Using domestic resources (coal-fueled electricity) is a good thing.
As for global warming, methinks it’s a misinterpretation of long-term data: we’re at the peak of a 125,000-year cycle, having obviously seen warming to get to this point (for long before gas-powered cars), we’re on the verge of a precipitous drop for which we’ll want all the warming we can get. I’m not demonizing oil for any reason other than reducing our political dependency on others.
I burn trash. I own a large SUV that gets 16MPG. I think “global warming” is a BS codeword. I drive a Leaf because I LIKE high-tech electronic gizmos, because it [ab]uses Leftist goals against themselves to refund my own money on what I want & need. I know EVs aren’t “clean” because they burn coal.
You’re wound around the axle so tight in a seething rage over anything using certain keywords that you spew venom at whomever those words may be attached to without bothering to see that everything I’m doing with the Leaf is purely for selfish conservative principles. You are, in short, exactly the kind of person I thought I’d smoke out by posting the thread in the first place.
Next I’m going to go troll my favorite Leftist. That’s gonna be a hoot, what with him knowing that I got an EV “for all the wrong reasons”.
Don’t need a GPS. Every year when you renew your tags they take the mileage down. Year 2 - Year 1 = # miles driven. Then they just tack it onto the tag fee!
Yes. Free.
Oh, a lot of money will change hands, but in the end I’ll have a new EV for 2 years for a net of $0.
Oh, they will. In the meantime I come out ahead.
true but government goons will also use GPS to track our every move. it’s coming . I KNOW cause of they are doing it to an industry i deal with already
Somebody who doesn’t take tax deductions, ie somebody that goes out of their way to pay the government more than the minimum demanded by law, has no room to criticize somebody else for supporting government socialism. You’re overfeeding the beast.
As for getting payouts, nearly a 3rd of my money goes to various layers of government, if some form exists to let me get some of MY money BACK I fill it out. If it’s the right car for him it’s the right car for him, and if the government is dumb enough to PAY him to get the right car for him that’s on the government not him.
O.K. Thanks
I’ve been posting the truth that government is the problem for 15 years all over the Internet.
I’ve done my part to fight government monster
so don’t tell me i can’t post the truth here
No deductions? Is that because you have no mortgage or dependents etc or no income? or because you COULD keep $thousands but choose to give it to the monster instead?
By what sane reasoning do you accuse me as you do?
Again, I needed a car. As a geek, I think EVs are neat. I’ve payed probably $400,000 in taxes; getting $12,500 back to buy a neat car I need works out. It doesn’t rely on foreign fuel suppliers; I’d have gotten a domestic make but those either don’t exist, cost way too much, or were spoiled by Leftism. Insofar as the system is there, I’m doing nothing more than getting back what was mine. WTF, man?
Congrats. Personally, I wouldn’t own a Leaf ... I think it’s one of the ugliest cars on the road. But I’d sure own an electric car. The Tesla Model S is very nice ... too expensive for me though.
Sure wish someone would make an affordable electric car that doesn’t look like an egg on wheels.
We know it’s the problem. We also know it exists, that we must deal with it, and there are ways of reducing its power by using its own ways to our advantage.
Unless you’re going to stop paying taxes altogether, you’re feeding the monster. Deductions amount to taking that food, which it took from you, back.
i didn't initiate this thread nor my personal taxes etc. it's you who posted this and that is the topic so you switch it to distract from your shilling for environmentalism on a conservative site
Nobody said you can’t post “the truth”, I’m simply pointing out that it is the duty of a fiscal conservative to feed the government as little money as they can legally get away with. And if you are not taking any deductions your are failing in that duty, and failing at it in a stupid way because not only are you overpaying the government, you’re taking food off your own table in the process.
