There could be a rather large cat fight on the horizon. Nestle Purina PetCare is suing rival Blue Buffalo alleging the company is lying about the natural ingredients in its pet food.
St. Louis-based Purina filed a lawsuit [PDF] in federal court Tuesday accusing Blue Buffalo of false advertising, disparagement and unjust enrichment.
Purina, the maker of brands like Beneful and Friskies, claims that Blue Buffalos ads stating its products contain only the finest natural ingredients and no chicken or poultry byproduct meals are false and violate the Federal Lanham Act.
This is not an action we take lightly, Steven Crimmins, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Nestlé Purina, says in a statement. We believe consumers deserve honesty when it comes to the ingredients in the food they choose to feed their pets.

I’ve fed mine Taste of the Wild since they were pups. 4.5 stars overall from the pet food review site. They particularly love the Venison flavor.
This company lost me the minute I saw their commercial, they have some woman sitting their talking about being a “pet parent” That told me right from the start they were schlocking BS and pandering to a segment of the market that would be easily manipulated and fall for it.
Not remotely surprised to find out their product claims are lies.
I’ve fed my dogs OLD ROY for years. They live a full life (14-16 years) and are in good shape.
I got a mixed collie to age 14 on Gravy Train before her back legs gave out. Even the vet who put her down remarked that she had been very well-cared for to make it to that age. And the pitty/shepherd is about to turn 3 and seems to be doing just fine on the same food.
That can be a challange to find. Some companies are now refusing to put the country of origin, but instead are saying, "Manufactered for ____________".
He's not a fussy eater, like some....will eat anything!
What did she think I had, an elephant?

So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again.
I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again.
I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.
Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack - he was laughing so hard.
Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.
You are welcome.
Our dogs have always done well on Purina feed. It’s kind of funny that our rough, tough cattle dog loves “Little Bites” for some reason.
She also gets table scraps.
Road kill and varmints are saved for special occasions.
Am I a bad “pet parent”?
