Why do Asian Americans, as a group, tend to excel at academics? Newly published research arrives at a simple answer: They work harder than their non-Asian peers.
The study also attempts to answer the less-simple question of why these kids tend to put more effort into their studies, and comes up with two likely answers: The culturally based belief that effort leads to achievement, and the fact that recent immigrants are highly motivated to succeed.
Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, sociologists Amy Hsin of Queens College and Yu Xie of the University of Michigan analyze data from two nationally representative studies: The Kindergarten Cohort of the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, which tracks children who entered kindergarten in 1998; and the Educational Longitudinal Study, which looked at the habits and achievements of high school students who were sophomores in 2004.
The first group of kids was tracked through eighth grade; their scores were based on their teachers assessment of their proficiency in reading, math, and general knowledge, as well as their attentiveness, task persistence, and eagerness to learn.
The high school students scores were based on their grade point averages and performance on standardized tests. In addition, their teachers reported their level of attentiveness in class, and noted whether they felt the student works hard for his/her grades.
The researchers report that the achievement gap between Asian American and white American kids starts off as small to non-existent, but gradually grows, peaking in 10th grade. This suggests the difference reflects academic effort rather than differences in cognitive ability, they write.

No sh/t
Same as Jews: because they mostly live in major metropolitan areas. The need for invasive big government increases with population density.

We need to spend money on research to arrive at this answer?
Any teacher could have told them this. The Chinese students study, many American students never even read their textbooks. Too busy playing games and partying and taking drugs and boozing. Cultural differences, to be sure, @cultural differences” is a very nice tactful way of putting it.
> Tiger moms.
Exactly! My wife is a tiger mom. My girls are terrified of ever bringing home a sub-par grade from school.
Obviously because the white man is keeping his hobnailed boots on the necks of the africanAmericans/blacks/coloreds/negroes/former slaves to put them in their place. Of course it’s only conservative white people doing it.
Well you say that as if the usual suspects won’t point that out. I have nothing but admiration for cultures that excel and thrive in an academic environment—and I loathe the cultures that don’t.
What does that make me?
So, Asians outperform “whites” because of cultural values,
but “whites” outperform “blacks” because “whites” are racist.
Got it.
I'm not sure how true this is. I know there are still a lot of very smart Asians graduating from college. But it is believed to be true by a lot of kids who go to college with Asians. They believe they are not doing as well in college as in high school overall.
MIT: Made in Taiwan
UCLA : University of Caucasians lost among Asians
UCI: University of Chinese Immigrants
Liblogic?
First day of any “hard” university class,
role is called,
an Asian name is read,
and you hear “there goes the curve!”
Yes, because “shut up”.
A scientist was interested in studying how far bullfrogs can jump. He brought a bullfrog into his laboratory, set it down, and commanded, ‘Jump, frog, jump!’
The frog jumped.
The scientist measured the distance, then noted in his journal, ‘Frog with four legs jumped siz feet.’
Then he cut the frog’s front legs off and ordered, ‘Jump, frog, jump!’
The frog struggled and jumped.
The scientist noted in his journal, ‘Frog with two legs jumped two feet.’
Next, the scientist cut off the frog’s back legs. Once more, he shouted, ‘Jump, frog, jump!’
The frog just lay there.
‘Jump, frog, jump!’ the scientist repeated.
Nothing.
The scientist noted in his journal, ‘Frog with no legs is deaf.’
LOL! And sit down.
Another small example.I spent a couple of days in Hong Kong a few months ago and learned that kids thre go to school Monday through Saturday.
Friend of mine knew the dead at one of the best universities in California. The university is best known for its science curriculum.
The dean told my friend that they do use affirmative action - for white students. They’ve a lot of legacies who’s kids or grandkids apply and its in their best interest to let these kids in.
Otherwise, according to the dean, every single kid in the school would be of Asian descent and that includes India.
The only Asian countries I’m aware of which still claim to be Communist are China, Vietnam and the Norks.
China is still ruled by an organization calling itself the Communist Party, and uses some Communist rhetoric. But any country with several private property billionaires and a great many private property millionaires cannot be called Communist in any real sense with a straight face.
Vietnam is pretty much following China down this road.
The Norks have a hereditary God-King, who rules with a system elevating the military far above civilians in importance. What is Communist about that, except the language?
