According to the Washington Times, “A Navy F-18 fighter pilot and former Top Gun instructor is publicly warning admirals that retention is beginning to suffer from the military’s relentless social conditioning programs. Cmdr. Guy Snodgrass said sailors are becoming fed-up with the constant emphasis on social issues — an apparent reference to gays in the military, women in combat and ending sexual harassment.”

So says our elected representatives and appointed officials from both parties. The United States hasn't had a decent Sec of Defense since the Reagan years. Sec of Defense became a political rewards position for either contractor/donor shills or liberal idealist.
W's biggest mistake was Rummy. He was pathetic under Ford and tried to bring his same nonsense back into policy including the if you don't wanna be in just leave policy. Of course back then in Rummy 1 all you had to do was walk off 31 days and turn yourself in somewhere else. That was a major discipline and morale breaker that carried over into about the mid Carter term. IIRC it got stopped and if you walked it was bad time tacked on to the end of your EAOS.

Destroy the military, drive good men out. No dictator worth his salt can stay in power without the backing of the military. Hopefully this (the coup) will be resolved before the military is destroyed.
