From mullet to math genius after a concussion

When Jason Padgett pours cream into his morning coffee, this is what he sees:

“I watch the cream stirred into the brew. The perfect spiral is an important shape to me. It’s a fractal. Suddenly, it’s not just my morning cup of joe, it’s geometry speaking to me.”

Padgett’s world is bursting with mathematical patterns. He is one of a few people in the world who can draw approximations of fractals, the repeating geometric patterns that are building blocks of everything in the known universe, by hand. Tree leaves outside his window are evidence of Pythagoras’ theorem. The arc that light makes when it bounces off his car proves the power of pi.

He sees the parts that make up the whole. And his world is never boring, never without amazement. Even his dreams are made up of geometry.

I found this article to be fascinating. I'm going to go beat myself in the head with a 2x4.

This is so rare, it would be easier to get hit by lighting, for this to happen to anyone.

And I am a multi head injury pt. myself.

Yep, MIT students in the dorm are whacking each other with baseball bats as we speak.

We all have that ability in our minds. Some people are able to unleash the magic better than others.

Well, I used to have a mullet, so I figure I’m already halfway there.

Thanks for posting - a glimpse into God’s greatest human creation, the human brain and mind!

The article mentions Daniel Tammet who is autistic but a savant who loves Pi and numbers.

The human brain is an amazing...and mysterious...thing.There are documented cases of people who, after a head injury, seizure or stroke, wake up speaking a language they never spoke before.I used to work for a neuropathologist...fascinating stuff.I even got to hold a human brain in my hands once....an experience I'll never forget.

I thought mullet was a useless fish that my dad dynamited in the San Diego sloughs and sold for chicken feed to buy the 2 1/2 acre property from the stage company after it was shut down when they built the railroad.

During one of his meditations, he came to the conclusion that “circles don’t exist.”

So the author or editor found this sentence compelling enough to share in the article but then utters not one more peep about it?

The mullet contained it. He, and we, were safe because of it’s protection. Now it is unleashed and he is free to use his powers for evil. NEVER ...EVER...cut a mullrt. You could inadvertently destroy the world.

It's self-obvious the circles don't exist. At Planck lengths, the resolution breaks down and all you can get is straight lines.

Or something.

Quick, somebody hit on the head again so he can get back to playing video games and texting 10,000 times a day.

At Planck lengths, lines have no meaning.
