For the first time, General Motors Co. could have an official of the United Auto Workers union on its board of directors.

UAW Vice President Joe Ashton was nominated to a board seat controlled by a UAW trust fund that pays retiree health care bills. He plans to retire from his union post in June.

The move, which would be considered common in Europe, is a first for General Motors, and a sign of how the relationship between the company and the union has changed in the past decade. Before that, the UAW battled with the company over wages, benefits and work rules, squeezing out as much as it could for members regardless of GM’s finances. Now, the two often work together to boost quality and control costs, with workers getting a slice of company profits every year. …

Doug Fraser was on the Chrysler board back in the 80s.

“One more reason not to buy a GM product.”

Yeah, agree. I’m a truck guy and have owned Fords and GMC’s/Chevy’s. Owned and old 65 Army surplus dodge with slant 6, great truck. Anyway, I like the GM trucks over Fords. And, I want to see how the aluminum body Fords hold up to a few Texas hail storms before I considering one. And, I’ll need to check out the new Ram too. Oh, Toyota Tundra, almost forgot. They’re too pricy for me. Never have been able to deal with’em. So, have some work to do.....

Yes . . . this is why Volkswagen is #3 behind GM and Toyota respectively.

My 97 Expedition has an aluminum hood, and its done well in Kansas. I’m sure at some point, a hail stone will be big enough to dent it....but it does fine with the small stuff.

However the steel parts of the body are rusting badly. I would very much prefer an aluminum body.

It’s the communist way. Collusion between the communist overlords and communist unions all for the benefit of everyone except the consumer.

The UAW wrecked General Motors, they stole the pensions of the white collar workers, they stole the money of investors, they stole taxpayer money to keep GM running, they then voted to pay new employees a lot less then current employees and.... they support obamacare which has cost millions of people their jobs or lowered their pay and raised the cost of medical care with fewer choices.

The only ones making money has been the UAW union leaders.

Thanks, appreciate the input. Btw, any indication of paint lifting? This was a problem with aluminum back in the day.

No. I’ve heard it was a problem (paint), but it hasn’t been for me.
