Black students at Washington and Lee University have demanded that the board of trustees denounce one of the two namesakes of the Virginia school, Confederate general Robert E. Lee, or face acts of civil disobedience.
The students are calling for the school to apologize for Lees racist and dishonorable conduct, remove Confederate flags from the chapel, and ban Confederate reenactors from the campus on Lee-Jackson Day (a state holiday), according to the Washington Post. General Lee, who served as the schools president after the Civil War, is buried on the school grounds beneath the campus chapel.
The tension stemmed from disappointment by black students over the schools lack of diversity, the Post reports. University president Kenneth Ruscio responded to the students demands by saying hes created a special task force to look into the schools past and to study the history of African Americans at the school.
While we are aware of some of that history, I believe we should have a thorough, candid examination, he said.
I think there are are quite a few, who want to cleanse the whole country of white people. Will they succeed?
I have a response to this atrocity but its so profane Jim Robinson would zot me.
So I’ll just leave it at “Horse Hockey” :-)
Well who is populating the fastest? Look at France, who just through population explosion over past several decades has more Muslims than French.
So if population control is only for whites...then do the math. If we aren’t overrun yet by blacks or foreign nationals, we will be.
Zero sent millions to Africa for abortions when he took office, so are they making room for something? Or is a population explosion going on there too...like the Middle East.
Yes we will. I see only lots of violence in the future, as they attempt their own brand of ethnic cleansing.
“They charge about the same as Harvard, Yale and Stanford. And they’re nowhere in the same league.”
I know nothing about W&L law school, but I have been intimately involved with the US News Ranking system, as a member of the board of a college that is consistently in the top 10 of the rankings.
We played the game, but the methodology is so stupid I am not even sure where to begin to talk about it. Most notably, it skews results to the NE and California (which helped the particular school I am involved with) due to how people are polled.
It then skews results due to past history, in effect, building on past errors.
Probably the most reliable rankings are the ones that poll top employers (for any college or grad school) and see who they like to hire.
While I was not on the board for our school’s law school (and am not a lawyer — thank God!), I do recall the staff being much more impressed with National Law Journal rankings of schools.
They is some rough overlap with US News, but not nearly as much as you would think. And the big ones (Yale, Harvard, Stanford) drop down below a lot of state schools that actually produce better lawyers.
Depending on where we are in the country, a change might be good.....another collapse and cutting of of entitlement programs could begin an Argentina like chaos of violence.
There isn't a snow balls chance that there wouldn't be chaos and violence.
I must be getting old and melodramatic
BUT
If I had a ‘problem’ with Black people what would my reasoning be to go a School of Higher Learning named after/for Martin Luther King, Calypso Louie, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson etc.
If I had a ‘problem’ with Catholics why would I even consider Notre Dame, Villanova, St. (ANYTHING), Georgetown etc...that not only includes ‘problem’ with Catholics BUT anything that goes against their ‘teachings’.
There may be a ‘complaint’ as one doesn’t usually have a real choice in what Grade, Middle or High School (short of moving) but when it comes to COLLEGE you definitely have a choice - Just because they ‘may’ give you a FREE ride doesn’t really ‘give’ you a right to DEMAND your HOST and BENEFACTOR change the way they think or teach.
How many of these students actually earn grades?
See Rhodesia
Demanding their way or they’ll riot. Things haven’t changed since I was in school in the ‘60s.
Funny they would pick Confedrate heritage month to pull this dumb stunt.
Well of course they did. :-)
The Southern legal resource center should be on this its an outrage indeed.
