I know that the old timers here in Central TX have been saying “Don’t plant yet as the unexpected Easter Freeze is imminent”

That’s what the wooly worm predicts.
We’re to have a hard freeze Monday night here in northern Missouri. I do remember 18” of snow on April 17th in 1972. Went mushroom hunting the next day and found a mess.
Guess I’ll call off the hunt this year until last week of April. Sigh.

It is never, ever a good idea to trust the weather here in March and early April to put vulnerable plants in the ground, unless you’re in a city where it is not as cold. It will likely not freeze here, but it will get close-it has been freezing earlier in the Fall and later in the Spring out here for the last 8-9 years...

Once this cold passes everything should be okay. Right?Until the inevitable May hailstorms hit. I have relatives who farm wheat in the panhandle, and grow vegetables and fruit in Central TX. It really does seem like once in about every six years, they will have a crop with no damage from weather related events. also, we are still in a drought in most of TX.
