The band was introduced by Stipe, who delivered an eloquent speech that addressed the power and historical importance of the band as part of a counterculture that somehow became mainstream. "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard," he said. "In the '80s and early '90s, the idea of a hopeful, democratic country had practically been dismantled by Iran Contra, by AIDS, by the Reagan, Bush Sr. administrations. With their music and their attitudes, Nirvana blasted through all that with crystalline, nuclear rage and fury. Nirvana were kicking against the system to show a sweet and beautiful, but fed-up fury coupled with howling vulnerability. They spoke truth, and a lot of people listened. They were singular and loud and melodic and deeply original. And that voice
That voice. Kurt, we miss you."

Hopefully they're engaging in sexual practices that preclude them from having children.
There was also the attempt by some to transform Cobain into that generation’s Lennon.
Cobain was a drug addict who came from a hopeless area. Aberdeen, WA is very depressed - used to be a sawmill town. The weather is usually not so good either. I would not live there for anything. But it’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t have ended the same way no matter where he started. An addict is an addict.
Trying to use him to criticize Republicans is just stupid.

Stand.
Funny comment.
He is such a silly person that Stipe.
Polly Wants a Cracker
Heart Shaped Box
Come as You Are
All Apologies
Penny Royal Tea
Those are the ones that immediately came to mind.
Btw, was never really a fan of Nirvana.
Shiny Happy People Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey! Pull that bus over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike, alright!? I want everybody off the bus. I want the shiny people over here, and the happy people over here, ok! I represent angry gun-toting meat-eating f’ing people, alright!

It’s hard to sing with so much marbles in my mouth.
So we’re singing and we’re playing
But you can’t tell what were saying
Oooooh. Sorry. Time's up again.
I'd argue that point. At least the plastic hippies in the 60's had talented musicians among them that wrote some enjoyable music that was good to listen to. These guys have always full out sucked about as bad as possible.
I am surprised that Stipe has not died of aids by now.
This recently amused me and within the last few weeks. I was in a liquor store and heard something from my distant past cranked. The employee seemed to be in his early 20s. I asked him what he was playing. He seemed a little bewildered that I had an interest and after taking a look said “It’s a band called....the Jam.” I told him I knew the band and song and even gave a brief lesson but my interest was from what radio station. He said it was a Pandora channel (fast forward to today’s technology) and it was “off he all-Clash channel.” I left knowing that today’s music must really be hideous.
I really enjoyed Beavis and Butthead, and Ren and Stimpy, but couldn’t stand Grunge Rock. But then I’m a pedal steel player, and my tastes in Rock tend to be old Zappa stuff.
There was a guy named Everman that was kicked out of Nirvana. He joined the army and made Rangers then Special Ops. He was one of the first guys in Afghanistan after 9/11. Google Evermans War. It was a great read from the NYtimes.
I wish you lived next door to me! We’d have a ball. Sick, but memorable.
Easy to figure out.
Stipe is ragingly gay. AIDS was not well understood and Reagan did not stop the world from rotating to ‘cure it’. Ergo he was evil. Well more evil than the would have been/was considered by the average straight leftist of the era.
It is once again, all about the ‘gay’.
Also the heavy metal/hippie thing. It is well documented that HM was all about the sex, the drugs and the Rock and Roll. Ergo it’s ‘sexist’ and thus anti liberal because of it. Now to be sure there were generally lib HM stars/bands. But their liberalism wasn’t the fanatical style. It was mostly the ‘get me laid with more lib chicks’ style, doing a benefit concert and leaving it at that.
Let us not forget it was Dee Snider that was one of the three who slapped down Tipper and the lib created PMRC.
It was about a week ago I heard Heart-Shaped Box.
