The first PGA golf major of the year begins on Thursday morning as The Masters takes place in Augusta, Georgia. The 2014 Masters Odds for the tournament have Rory McIlrory favored to win, according to the Las Vegas Hotel, home of the SuperBook.

This year's Masters tournament will not feature the world's No. 1 player in Tiger Woods because of a back injury. Rory McIlroy is listed as the favorite by oddsmakers to win this year's Masters at 8/1. He is the only player listed in single digit odds. Behind him, Scott and Day at 10/1 and Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are both at 15/1 odds to win the tournament.

Below is a list of the individual holes at the Augusta National Golf Club, courtesy of Wikipedia. The tournament will play as a par 72 again this season and total 7,435 yards.

Tiger is not playing this week so we all get a respite from distractions.

Yes as a matter of fact I am and knew Tiger is out this week and for the foreseeable future. I wasn’t commenting on The Masters this weekend but my reply was to the post about the 34 rules of golf.

Oh. Thanks. I actually read an article elsewhere that had Scott and McIlroy, don’t recall Day in the mix. Just goes to show how many oddsmakers there are and how often they change their minds. You don’t suppose that money is changing hands, do you?

OK, here’s what I looked at yesterday with Scott and McIlroy at 10:1 and Day, Mickelson and Kuchar at 12:1. No clue how good this writer is.

So who among the top players has been playing well lately?

Sergio Garcia, Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler spring to mind. Jimmy Walker has cooled off, and Scott has blown hot and cold. McIlroy could get hot, he’s shown signs lately.

Sunday pin placements are always brutal, but then, so is the pressure. Augusta has heaters under the greens so they can make them as fast as they want. If the course is fast, and I have no idea if it will be, then I think it works against McIroy.

Since much of the discussion seems to be around dark horses, I'd watch Luke Donald, because he is great with his irons. If the course is right, he could be a contender.

Because of the way The Masters operates, half of these guys can be eliminated right now as they can't really be considered seriously.

My hope is that like so many years past, the winner is determined on Sunday at "amen corner."

I didn’t see that coming ;o)

The way the Aussies have been playing I’m surprised they aren’t favored.I think Adam Scott will win, but hope Kuchar does.

Just turned on the DVR, watching Arnold, Jack and Gary tee off.

I’m hoping for Phil too, but I’m feeling Jason Dufner

I hope not. Something about that guy rubs me the wrong way.

I'd watch out for LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN, at 50/1. He had the double-eagle on the first nine last year, I think, and plays well there.

Oosthuizen's albatross was on hole # 2 in 2012. I was in the bleachers at hole # 4 at the time. Phil was in contention and every one in the bleacher assumed Phil did something until they posted the score on the small leaderboard at 4. Phil's hopes of winning another Masters where dashed at #4. His tee shot into the par 3 went left and hit a 1/2 inch hand railing about 5 feet from where I was sitting. It bounced into the woods and Phil took a 6. It was pure bad luck and cost him the Masters. I'd say he has a good a chance as any to win this years event.

HENRIK STENSON at 20/1 odds ... you heard it here first. He will win by three on Sunday.

The Masters is my favorite event of the year, period. This is an odds maker's nightmare because of all the talent. I have to go with Phil as my sentimental favorite. And speaking of sentiment, I want a major for Sergio. But, Adam Scott is back as champ with nothing but top tens all year and four wins down under during our winter.

Jordan Speith thinks he's invincible and so does Jason Day. And this course is about being long, and good around the greens. Patrick Reed showed he had that game twice this year and Stephen Bowditch put on a show of short game magic at the Texas Open.

Oooweeee baby, I'm glad I cleared the rest of the week - I'll be glued to this one.

PS - NEVER discount Freddie!

Glad to hear a good wish for Sergio…I’ve enjoyed him since his first time out as a 19-year-old whizkid. Mickelson has lost too many games on the 18 the hole for me to cling to hope, but I’m nowhere near giving up on that other Irish guy who has the talent to be one of the greatest. The temperament? Remains to be seen.

But whoever comes out on top, we’re in for a few days of topnotch golf. I’ll bet no one runs away with it; should be hard fought to the end. Good for the spectators and great for the game.

"Tom Watson playing, wouldn’t that be something"

If his putter behaves we just might see something special.

Given the sycophant nature of the LSM, I’m surprised Tiger Wood isn’t favored.

ROFL!! Indeed!! Even if he's not playing this weekend!

I'm pulling for Phil, but I think its Jason Day's time.

Pulling for Phil also. I see he's paired with Rose and Els today.

The day of truth is here. It's time for my boys Phil and Jason to get down to business. Jordan seems unaffected by everything and is going about his business. Today will be good to watch.

I LOVE THIS STUFF!

My son-in-law, who is a PGA pro, is down there (since he gets in for free LOL).

I think it broke his heart when they wouldn’t let him in with his cell phone. I’m sure he was planning on sending us lots of pics.
