I thought the same about the short-lived TV series "Awake". In the end, it was all a dream and a complete waste of viewing time.
Too many TV programs, especially, are made up as they go.
I recall an interview of the Doctor guy from "Lost" early during the first year. The host and he were talking about the surprising success of the series. The Doctor guy said they [cast and crew] expected it would go 3-4 episodes and then be cancelled. When it turned into a major success, the writers were frantic to pump out more episodes. [I quit watching about about 1.5 seasons, as it got pretty silly.]

It figures. But, actually, I blame copious use of the dreaded Mary Jane, Ganja or the especially potent Marakesh Hashish by the writers. No other explanation fits, frankly.
