IMHO, XP was, and is, still the best. Still have it on one of my putters.
Uh, puters! (Darn thing auto corrected)
Upgraded last year from XP to Win 8.
Once again, early adopters are screwed.
Maybe MS should offer an upgrade that wasn’t designed for a 15-year-old girl’s smart phone.
I’m still using XP exclusively on the windows side of my Mac and on my laptop. Why would I switch and spend a month fighting a new user interface that hides the stuff I actually use and is even more bloated?
This just shows that Win 8 is so bad that people wouldn’t switch to it even if they get paid to. I don’t mind switching to Windows 7, but if you don’t buy a computer with a touch screen, Windows 8 is absolutely horrible.
If you like your XP, you can keep it...........................
Moving to Windows 8...not for $100. However, I did rebuild my old Windows XP desktop and moved to Windows 7. Windows 7 is a worthy successor Windows XP.
I am getting used to the windows 8 on this laptop. Circumnavigating like Magellan is sorta kinda like an adventure. Sorta. Kinda.
IMHO, XP was, and is, still the best.”
I’m right there with you. I did get a new computer though but we installed Windows 7 which I do like.
Still have my other computer with XP but it is not connected to the internet. I have some specialized software on the old computer I have used since the 1990’s for my business clients and it won’t run on Windows 7. Upgrading the other software isn’t a possibility because not only does it work just fine, but some of the companies that made it are no longer in business.
I have two purchased copies of XP. I’ve moved them around from computer to computer and registered them each time. 7 is nice, but XP works just fine for me.
Vista was crap, of course.
Maybe not?
Have you checked the prices at the Micro Soft store lately?
Not cheap.
Desperation. I’ll hang onto my 10 year old HP tower running XP, even though it’s getting a little cranky.
Windows 7 runs better on an old PC than XP. I had to convert to get stuff to work
I’m not finding 8 to be nearly as bad as some are claiming. It takes some getting used to but it seems very stable.
It would be nice to have a few of the old threads from the time XP came out.
As I recall, here on FR it was denounced over and over as being too expensive, hard to use, memory hog, another Microsoft boondoggle, and the main culprit of Global Warming.
I suspect the price of PCs/laptops/notebooks etc. will go up by just about as much. Funny how those things happen.
Most that I have read has recommended forget Win8 and go with Win7. I have XP but thinking of upgrading to a new Mac.
