Finally!
I was without a computer all week last week and then found out frday that the old computer was beyond repair. I got this one for a good price and it seems a much better computer; videos play well for one thing. Right now there are only two problems:
1)Although I set up my two e-mail accounts on Outlook Express correctly and exactly as I'm supposed to, one of them refuses to work (fortunately, not my main one). The other one resolutely refuses to do so even though there is absolutely no logical reason for this. Also, this is after two phone calls and two remote control sessions. One of them got the bad account to work once, then it stopped again. However, the main account is still working and even if it weren't I could still access my e-mail on the 'Net (which is what I'll have to do for the other one). All in all, this is not a big deal.
2)HOWEVER--this one is (to me at least). For some inexplicable reason the fonts of all the web pages I view look splotched and faded, much as would a newspaper or magazine printed with ink in the process of drying out. While I expect I can get used to it with time, this is a biiiiig pain-in-the-tail for me. Does anyone out there know how to darken and solidify the fonts one views on the 'Net? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!
Welcome ... Back!
Bump. (Also, HELP! if you can.)
try ‘View’ and reset text size.
am suggesting ‘View’ for this page first as a test.
Many different kinds of screens, and OSs, but there is an adjustment for XP: you can try switching Windows XP ClearType on or off, depending on what you were used to seeing.
my text size, in ‘View’ is medium. Zoom is set to 115%
Perhaps a blond used liquid paper on your screen to fix spelling errors.
Other than that, no idea.
Holding down control and rolling the wheel of the mouse (the one on top) back and forth a few times resets the font size and helps when I have horizontal lines running across a webpage.
Welcome back.
Computers are great, except when they are not.
By any chance have you looked at your screen settings in Control Panel, if first suggestion does not work?
Note for #1: Don’t use Outlook Express. Outlook Express is legacy and does not use the proper protocol standards in place since its initial release. You likely can’t get your mail, because your client doesn’t support a specific transaction encryption (i.e. TLS).
Download Thunderbird from Mozilla (it’s free) and try again. I bet you have better luck.
C'mon guys, don't do this to me. It's not "size." No matter what "size" the font is in "view" it's still splotchy and faded. It's in all three of my browsers and in my own personal documents as well. Either this is just a bad computer for fonts or else my monitor is magically starting to go out.
Thanks anyway.
Why is it always so hard to describe computer problems in text (or even over the phone)???
But the edges are extremely dull on this old school tech. ...good luck.
Adjust the screen resolution
Have you looked at your settings for screen display in Control Panel?
How do I do that?
I'm a little worried that it's not the monitor, though. The monitor didn't come with the old computer either--they just worked together perfectly. I'm kind of afraid that the fonts will look this way with any monitor. And I have no idea what to do about it.
I didn't even test the fonts before I bought this computer (just the videos). How was I to know I'd get a computer with faded fonts?
agree ... could be a driver problem.
Take a picture with a cell phone and post it.
My apology ... went for a quick fix first.
Welcome back!
btw ... I’m not an IT person and no ... did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night either ... Laz is Great with/on adjustments from what have heard. Last resort ... ping Laz. He may be in a good mood but maybe not. Only pinged Laz because I mentioned you. (smiles)
