Many different kinds of screens, and OSs, but there is an adjustment for XP: you can try switching Windows XP ClearType on or off, depending on what you were used to seeing.

Perhaps a blond used liquid paper on your screen to fix spelling errors.
Other than that, no idea.
Holding down control and rolling the wheel of the mouse (the one on top) back and forth a few times resets the font size and helps when I have horizontal lines running across a webpage.
Welcome back.
Computers are great, except when they are not.

By any chance have you looked at your screen settings in Control Panel, if first suggestion does not work?

Note for #1: Don’t use Outlook Express. Outlook Express is legacy and does not use the proper protocol standards in place since its initial release. You likely can’t get your mail, because your client doesn’t support a specific transaction encryption (i.e. TLS).
Download Thunderbird from Mozilla (it’s free) and try again. I bet you have better luck.

try View and reset text size.C'mon guys, don't do this to me. It's not "size." No matter what "size" the font is in "view" it's still splotchy and faded. It's in all three of my browsers and in my own personal documents as well. Either this is just a bad computer for fonts or else my monitor is magically starting to go out.
Thanks anyway.
Why is it always so hard to describe computer problems in text (or even over the phone)???

If you are using your old monitor with your new computer, you may need to install its drivers on your new system if changing browser settings don't resolve the issue.
But the edges are extremely dull on this old school tech. ...good luck.

Adjust the screen resolution

I'm a little worried that it's not the monitor, though. The monitor didn't come with the old computer either--they just worked together perfectly. I'm kind of afraid that the fonts will look this way with any monitor. And I have no idea what to do about it.
I didn't even test the fonts before I bought this computer (just the videos). How was I to know I'd get a computer with faded fonts?
