Three rampaging pit bulls attacked three Bay Terraces residents and sent them scrambling for safety Tuesday morning before a San Diego police officer shot the dogs.

A 78-year-old retired Navy chief was bitten first, when he went outside to get his newspaper. The animals then charged a woman and bit her ankle before she could scale a neighbors 4-foot fence.
Then the dogs turned on 19-year-old Michael Ward, who stepped out of his Petal Drive house to find out why a woman was yelling.
She was trying to get away from three large pit bulls, Ward said. Then they came chasing after me. One bit my thigh and one bit the side of my ribs.

pit bulls were responsible for 25 of the 32 fatal dog bites in the United States last year. Bull mastiffs and German shepherds were each blamed for killing two people.

A toast to ya, Chet!
They should ban these dogs from residential neighborhoods.
Anybody stupid enough to own one of these monsters should at least have a lawyer on retainer.
I love dogs, but a breed meant strictly for fighting, mixed with irresponsible people is a very hazordous situation.
I was walking in my yard and I got this really odd feeling something was following me. Every time I looked back I could not see anything. Then I happened to notice a pit bull peering at me from a yard. He was stalking me but not directly behind but going yard to yard.
I darted in a neighbor’s house. I did not even knock. I never felt so helpless.
“pit bulls were responsible for 25 of the 32 fatal dog bites in the United States last year. Bull mastiffs and German shepherds were each blamed for killing two people.”
Well so much for the pit bull defenders who make them out to be no different than other dogs. 25/32 is over 3/4.
Read that as over 3/4 of all deaths by dog in the USA were via the pit bull model. Just wow. You just have to be ignorant to ignore that.
Who is going to enforce the law?
Went to the local dog park Sunday night and there were three of them there and none others. One was a pup and the other two were a male and a female. I let my two in with them and all were o.k. though my big female was not happy and tried to run. As they chased her down she went past me and the pup hit me from behind sending me sprawling onto my back. The owner apologized and helped me up. There were no fights though there was some play growling. My dogs are sociable and not aggressive so I didn’t worry too much with the owners right there.
My neighbor has a female that is very friendly but climbs a fence to get out. I’ve put her back but she just wants to be with people - very, very strong though.
When I lived in FL some years ago, the local government estimated that there were 250,000 feral cats and dogs in Hillsborough County. To me that is a staggering statistic. I wonder what that number is in San Diego?
Considering the number of scumbag dog owners and those who abandon dogs (and there is a *lot* of that), I don’t find 25 incidents a year to be too surprising in a country of 300 million people.
To bridge to another topic, I wonder how many problem dogs in the US are owned by illegal Mexicans. Hmm, food for thought.
But...but...pitbulls are such wonderful pets, no?
With one exception, all the pit bull owners I have seen have been Hispanic — just observing. Maybe just a macho thing to have one.
A lot of people own these dogs to enhance their thug image.
That’s relevant to my comments in what way? Other than trying to be inflammatory?
The biggest problem this county has (in this regard) is a$$hole dog owners, I have had to live near enough of them over the last 50 years. And I am damn tired of seeing abused, neglected and mistreated dogs. If they become dangerous and have to be put down, so be it, human life has to come first. But lay the real blame where it belongs, with the human trash that turn these dogs into a threat.
Last year, several blocks from my home it was discovered that a sick f**k was abusing and training pits to fight, the sight of those animals when it was discovered was horrifying. Had there been no legal prohibition for doing so, I would have beat that SOB to a pulp with a baseball bat and not had a moment’s remorse.
If you think that my statements somehow make me in favor of dogs attacking people you are quite mistaken.
Absolutely. You wonder whether the typical owner of pit bulls has any assets that he is afraid of losing? My bet is no, he doesn't.
around here the majority of Pit Bulls are owned by negros and negro wanna be white punks
We will be adopting a dog this spring. Researching the rescue groups in the area, it’s shocking how many pits and “pit mix” dogs are available.
They will all be required to turn them into the local animal control shelter. Anyone caught with one after the deadline will be arrested and sent to jail for possessing an assault weapon illegally.
No...my comments were not directed to you.

2013 statistics
32 U.S. dog bite-related fatalities occurred in 2013. Despite being regulated in Military Housing areas and over 700 U.S. cities, pit bulls contributed to 78% (25) of these deaths. Pit bulls make up about 6% of the total U.S. dog population.2
Together, pit bulls (25) and rottweilers (1), the second most lethal dog breed, accounted for 81% of the total recorded deaths in 2013. This same combination accounted for 74% of all fatal attacks during the 9-year period of 2005 to 2013.
The breakdown between these two breeds is substantial over this 9-year period. From 2005 to 2013, pit bulls killed 176 Americans, about one citizen every 18.6 days, versus rottweilers, which killed 33, about one citizen every 99.5 days.
In the year of 2013, the combination of pit bulls (25), rottweilers (1) and bullmastiffs (2) accounted for 88% of all dog bite-related fatalities. Notably, the two bullmastiff-mixes3 were littermates that inflicted death within a 6-month period.
