One of my favs... Robert W. Service - The Spell of the Yukon

The Men That Don't Fit In

Robert W. Service

There's a race of men that don't fit in,
 A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
 And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
 And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
 And they don't know how to rest.

If they just went straight they might go far;
 They are strong and brave and true;
But they're always tired of the things that are,
 And they want the strange and new.
They say: "Could I find my proper groove,
 What a deep mark I would make!"
So they chop and change, and each fresh move
 Is only a fresh mistake.

And each forgets, as he strips and runs
 With a brilliant, fitful pace,
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones
 Who win in the lifelong race.
And each forgets that his youth has fled,
 Forgets that his prime is past,
Till he stands one day, with a hope that's dead,
 In the glare of the truth at last.

He has failed, he has failed; he has missed his chance;
 He has just done things by half.
Life's been a jolly good joke on him,
 And now is the time to laugh.
Ha, ha!  He is one of the Legion Lost;
 He was never meant to win;
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone;
 He's a man who won't fit in.

At the questions his press sec just ducks
For the welfare group he takes our bucks
And for even the blind
It is not hard to find
This Obama regime surely sucks

Oh you are very welcome! RWS is perhaps not the most...polished of poets... but he is one of my favorites.

When I grew up he was required reading! Every few years I find myself going back to that wonderful time when his words and the Yukon came into my life.

Thank you Amy for the fresh new thread.

Been decent weather here in Oklahoma where I have wintered. Ohio weather has been brutal, as in many other places this past several months.

I will be here til after Easter and then I go home to hopefully go through probate and find a buyer for mom’s home

Time on Internet is spent mostly at Facebook and “The Porch”.

Health has been better and both pups Josy and Toby and Molly the cat are here with me in Oklahoma and have outings to a nearby huge lake and wooded area where they have safety and sufficient space to run,swim and work out.

Happy Spring ... It appears to have arrived for many

Free Tomatoes

April 1, 2014

Read: Exodus 35:20-29

Everyone whose spirit was willing . . . brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle. —Exodus 35:21
Bible in a Year:
Judges 13-15; Luke 6:27-49

Packing groceries into the trunk of my car, I glanced at the vehicle next to me. Through the back window, I could see baskets full of bright red tomatoes—shiny, plump, and better looking than any I had seen in the store. When the car’s owner appeared seconds later, I said, “What great looking tomatoes!” She replied, “I had a good crop this year. Would you like some?” Surprised by her willingness to share, I gladly accepted. She gave me several free tomatoes to take home—they tasted as good as they looked!

We see an even greater spirit of generosity in the Israelites when they gave to build the tabernacle of the Lord. When asked to provide materials for the sanctuary, “everyone whose spirit was willing . . . brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle” (Ex. 35:21). The Israelites eagerly donated their gold jewelry, colored thread, fine linen, silver, bronze, gemstones, and spices. Some also gave their time and talents (vv.25-26).

If we follow the Israelites’ example and willingly donate our resources, we please and honor God with our attitude and offerings. The Lord, who sees and knows our thoughts and hearts, loves cheerful givers. He Himself is the best example of generosity (John 3:16).

Dear Jesus, You gave everything You had
for my sake. Help me to give with
a willing heart so that my gifts
will truly honor You.
The state of our heart is more important than the size of our gift.

JC, here's the cake I promised you today!
Remember when we first realized
that we both have used the same recipe for many years?
I hope it is as good as the one your mama made!

Have a Happy, Happy Birthday, sweetie!
We all MISS you so much! ((((HUGS))))

What a lovely start for the beginning of April, ladies!

When April showers may come your way
They bring the flowers that bloom in May
So when it’s raining have no regrets
Because it isn’t raining rain you know
It’s raining violets

And when you see clouds up on a hill
You know they’ll bring crowds of daffodils
So just keep looking for a bluebird
And listening for his song
Whenever April showers come along

And when you see clouds up on the hill
You know there’ll be crowds of daffodils
So just keep looking for a bluebird
And listening for his song
Whenever April showers come a-long...

Summer time is when we can harvest and serve fresh sliced tomatoes, with fried okra, and fried spring chicken, and corn bread. GREAT eating. Nothing like it.

All these modified seeds that are being done to the food we grew up eating is troubling. No one can improve of nutritionally on God's way of growing food. It simply changes it. Maybe it ships better, which is good for the producers. There are varieties of Apples that are very tasty. Are we going to lose the originals?

It is mostly about how to produce more and get them to market in better condition. Thank God for the wonders in this world that we have access to eating. Thank Thee LORD for the generous choices we have available locally in our supermarkets. Amazing!
