We have a herd of 7 deer that visit every couple of nights. Gardening is going to be problematic once it gets warm enough to get some plants growing.

This morning started off with some excitement - had a live trap near the garden baited with peanut butter/sunflower seeds to catch a renegade squirrel. Forgot to shut the door for overnight & caught a skunk. Actually got him/her released without getting sprayed - used a drum liner over the trap, dressed in another drum liner just in case, and using a heavy duty bungee plus a stick, got the door open. The skunk took a few seconds to come out, then bolted across the field. I figured one of these days I’d end up with a skunk in the trap and wondered what I’d do - now I know. :-)

Glad you were able to avoid the skunk spray. Hubby was trying to catch something that was eating his grapes a couple of weeks back.

Next morning the trap was broken. We think it was a big coon. Later, we caught a smaller one and hauled him off, but we think big ole coon is still around. He had lots of protection last year to defeat big ole coon, but some sort of fungus or disease ruined the crop instead.

I hope we get some grapes to eat one of these years.LOL

Urine from human males around the perimeter of the garden deters deer..Urine from females has the opposite effect...at least with Texas White Tail Deer, that's how it works.

You are sooooo LUCKY! Hubby woke me up in the wee hours saying not to let the dogs out because he smelled skunk. One was sprayed a couple months ago, pew. The best remedy is hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dishwashing soap. That’s not the time to measure so just dump a lot into a bucket and give them a bath. If it’s warm enough, a shave helps a lot.
