They certainly are. We have deer feeding going on hereabouts and it only encourages population growth. Every doe in the neighborhood has a pair or triplets every spring. Four or five animals have been hit by passing cars.
And now, the Missouri Department of Conservation thinks its a good idea to reintroduce elk.

Yes, that is the advantage of having done some serious catering, I've got commercial pans to use for my gardening. If I'm ever in the position to have to cook for 250 again, I'm sure the pans will clean up nicely. ;)

The heat potential is why I went ahead and pulled the cold frame. If the lid should blow shut, it becomes a broiler if it's very warm. I'll risk the cool, rather than cook my veggies before it is time.

Well, it’s year two of the 4x4 experiment. My first box I added new compost and planted beans, artichokes and left some room for the tomatoes I will be planting in the next week. Also have a basil plant in there which may or may not be dead.
In my second box, I still have carrots, beets, broccoli that is now flowering and lettuce that somehow managed to survive the winter. I will let those go another 2-3 weeks and see if I get anything. Going to add more compost to that one and go with salad.
What I am interested in learning about is fruit trees. If anyone can provide insight on what I can plant in central Texas I would appreciate it. I am also going to build another 4x4 next weekend and use that strictly for root veggies.

Hugs on your sad day. The screen is getting blurry just thinking of one of ours who’s been gone 8 years now. Some are harder to take than others. Looks like the current crop of monsters will need to have their summer haircuts earlier this year. One likes it but the bear will be totally depressed.
It’s supposed to be another sunny near 80 degree day. After the weather threat yesterday, re-took the flats out to the porch this morning. One ‘mater had grown over to another little pot and rooted. He’ll be fun to transplant. The last batch of pepper seeds re-potted on 3/12 never came up so will have room in the garden to try something new from the various packets bought (did NOT need) the other day. Started on getting the weed fabric out yesterday but the winds were too strong so need to get back to it today.
You are sooooo LUCKY! Hubby woke me up in the wee hours saying not to let the dogs out because he smelled skunk. One was sprayed a couple months ago, pew. The best remedy is hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dishwashing soap. That’s not the time to measure so just dump a lot into a bucket and give them a bath. If it’s warm enough, a shave helps a lot.
