This is one reason among many that Putin rolled on Crimea.
What a waste.
They have leaves on trees and green grass there right now?
Too early to judge, perhaps? Sochi is a summer destination for the most part, isn’t it? If it’s still like this in July, then I’d agree it’s bad news.
Hhhuuuhhh, we have one of those...it’s called Detroit —”Detroit, a bastion of liberal ideas.”
Are the hotel rooms ready yet?
That’s pretty much standard for many Olympic venues. Billions to build for a few weeks use and then either a speedy or slow decline into ruin.
Future POW camps when the Big Red Machine starts rolling.
Many of those buildings will become summer homes and hotel rooms, since Sochi is a famous summer resort dating from the late Czarist times.
If I was Ukrainian I would go there and annex the site
Hope it works out better than Sarajevo for the locals...
Anyway, am I alone here or am I the only one who thinks it dumb that the Olympics are held in a different venue every time.
All that infrastructure getting built - billions of dollars expended and years of work - all for about 13 days of actual "games" (with two days of marching around a stadium with flags). All so some obscure hamlet (Lake Placid anybody?) or large city can get a brief shining moment in the limelight.
I was in Los Angeles during the 1984 Olympics and that was a joy. There was traffic everywhere! Restaurants were jammed! People were walking around all herky-jerky. It was a crazy, crazy time. I don't even remember who won.
It’s another example of what’s wrong with the policies of the vainglorious Putin. He spent more than all previous Olympics combined to no lasting value for the Russian people. He’s taken $75 billion from them for his own purposes, too. And his criminal activities in Ukraine are similar. It’s all about theft and hubris.
Maybe the pictures were taken on a Sunday and everyone was in church.......
Well it is a summer resort town, give it another couple of months. That bobsled track could be an awesome waterslide if they put a pool at the bottom.
