Their weather is similar to the Carolinas so I would expect spring would be springing.

My understanding is that it was never a true or proper "winter olympics" climate or venue in the first place. It was chosen simply because Putin wanted it. A lot of hard work and luck in the surrounding mountains luckily made it.

The Sochi Olympics were in two locations. One, in the snow-covered mountains 30 miles away from the city center. That’s where snowboarding and skiing events took place.

The other was at Olympic Park, which had the stadium and skating rinks. That area is located on the seashore and has warmer weather similar to the French Riviera. In fact, the weather there allows palm trees to grow year round.

The grass doesn’t die in some places. It’s green all year in Germany, and Sochi is way south of Germany.
