Many of those buildings will become summer homes and hotel rooms, since Sochi is a famous summer resort dating from the late Czarist times.

They have leaves on trees and green grass there right now? My understanding is that it was never a true or proper "winter olympics" climate or venue in the first place. It was chosen simply because Putin wanted it. A lot of hard work and luck in the surrounding mountains luckily made it.
