LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC A naked man threatening to harm himself at the Lake Murray dam kept sheriffs deputies and first-responders busy for nearly eight hours Monday.
The incident, which started at the Dreher Shoals Dam at about 11:30 a.m., was resolved without incident or harm shortly after 7 p.m., according to Erik Murray with the Lexington County Sheriffs Department.
Officials who arrived on the scene were met with a man with no clothes threatening to commit suicide. Crisis negotiators were able to diffuse the situation, Murrah said.
The man was taken via EMS to a local hospital, where he will be evaluated by medical professionals.
Murrah said no additional information is expected to be released Monday.
Ping!
Just dam
WOW! That’s a huge dam!
Good thing he didn’t have any gun tattoos.
I was looking for the nude man or the dam nude man.
Think you could kind of focus in just a little?
Size does matter!
What did the fish say when he did the concrete wall?
Dam?
Eight hours? Shoot him with a tranquilizer dart and be done with it.
That’s dam impressive construction.
“What did the fish say when he did the concrete wall?”
Fish,”sorry I’m late, I got caught”
A few years ago dam people decided that because we are on a fault line the earthen dam might fail flooding Columbia. So the built the concrete back-up dam. The road running along the earthen dam became two lanes running one way, from the bottom right to the top of the photo. Traffic coming from the other way dips between the two dams.
Every spring there is a Dam Swim. Couple hundred swimmers, my child included, swim the length of the dam. The route takes them on the far side of those towers, just a bit more than two miles. Parents follow along on a walkway on top of the earthen dam.
Honest mistake, officer... caught his finger in the dyke.
“Did you see what they did to the river? DAM IT!”
LOL!
That is cold water coming out below the dam. So cols the river has trout living there. They stocked it years ago and there are now feral trout in central SC!
That is pretty amazing! I’ve never seen a dam with a backup dam.
The dam swim sounds like a fun event.
This is the oddest incident on record by a dam site.
We have our own flavor of dam fun here in SC!
We, wife and teens, were driving down the road one day and came around a bend and saw a huge dam in front of us. I let out a long, drawn out DA-AAM!
Since I don’t curse, the entire car got real quite. The they saw the dam they busted out laughing.
