Auto Club Speedway adds SAFER barrier:
When #11-Denny Hamlin returns to Auto Club Speedway this week, he’ll find more of the SAFER barrier in the area where he crashed last year. The Southern California facility has added an additional 1,000 feet of the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction barrier inside Turn 4, according to a track spokesman. The change was made in September, six months after Hamlin sustained a broken back vertebra after crashing into an unprotected area of the wall in the track’s Sprint Cup Series event last March. In the wake of the accident, NASCAR officials said experts would reevaluate that section of the wall and recommend changes if necessary. SAFER barriers are typically first installed along the parts of track walls where impacts are most likely to occur, but it’s not uncommon for the barriers to be added or altered in reaction to accidents. A Jeff Gordon hit at Las Vegas, an Elliott Sadler incident at Pocono and a Jeff Fuller accident at Kentucky each resulted in changes being made to walls or barriers at those facilities.(NASCAR.com)(3-19-2014)
3M Aerospace Honors Military on Biffle’s car:
3M’s Aerospace Division will make its racing debut this Sunday at Auto Club Speedway onboard Greg Biffle’s #16 Ford Fusion. Aerospace products from 3M are used in a wide range of applications, from commercial airlines to business jets to military aircraft. Biffle’s Ford will proudly show 3M’s thanks to those men and women serving the U.S. Armed Forces with a Salute to the Armed Forces. Many of 3M’s employees are proud veterans or actively serve in the guard or reserves. The 3M Ford Fusion hood will showcase the five medallions of the different branches of military service, while the car will feature a vehicle wrap in camo design from 3M Commercial Solutions. Many 3M products are used in military applications. Polyurethane tapes help protect rotor blades from damage caused by rain, sand and debris during landing. Wings sealed with 3M’s polysulfide sealants, a lighter-weight sealant, allow for a more fuel efficient aircraft. 3M’s E-A-R brand thermal acoustic products increase cabin comfort by decreasing noise levels inside the plane. 3M Aviation Window Restoration Systems by Clearfix help the military to repair polycarbonate and acrylic windows in theater, allowing aircraft to return to a mission-ready-status faster.(Roush Fenway Racing), see an image of the car on the #16 team paint schemes page.(3-19-2014)

Brooke Werner steps down as Miss Sprint Cup:
Miss Sprint Cup Brooke Werner announced Wednesday on her Facebook page that she is resigning as Miss Sprint Cup due to personal reasons. Werner posted the following message on Facebook on Wednesday.
“Hey fans, difficult decisions are always tough to communicate to people you love so much...like you guys. I recently made the hard decision to resign as Miss Sprint Cup for personal reasons (all good!) and hang up my firesuit. It’s been one of the greatest times of my life and I have you all to thank for that. I’ll miss you all very much but I know that you’ll all be excited to meet the new Miss Sprint Cup soon!”
Werner, a former Miss Vermont USA, had filled the role of Miss Sprint Cup with Kim Coon and Madison Martin. This is Martin’s first year in the Miss Sprint Cup program, while it’s Coon’s fourth. Werner was beginning her second season on tour. Miss Sprint Cup serves as the representative for Sprint, entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.(Autoweek)(3-20-2014)
