The family of Ethan Couch, the teenager who fatally struck a disabled motorist and three good Samaritans last summer while driving drunk near Burleson, has settled lawsuits with some of the victims families.
The Couch family agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to the families of Breanna Mitchell and Hollie Boyles and her daughter Shelby.
The family of youth pastor Brian Jennings has not reached a settlement with Couchs family.
Jennings and the Boyleses had pulled over to help Mitchell, who had stopped after a tire blowout late June 15 in the 1500 block of Burleson-Retta Road.
The pickup Couch was driving, which was registered to his fathers company, struck all four pedestrians while traveling 70 mph. The truck flipped, ejecting two teenagers who were sitting in the truck bed and striking several other vehicles.

I was thinking reduction of staff and less pay for the remainder. Also loss of customers.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet that the judge was bribed big-time. Six figures for sure. Maybe even seven figures. Bottom line: Murderer kid goes free. Judge is a millionaire.
Yes, she does.
The book ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS makes it abundantly clear that NO ONE is to be let off the hook because he has a disease. The reason is there is a way out. Take the way out or pay the consequences.
I think that's a safe bet.
Unfortunately the settlement amounts that were on the news were quite small, less than $200,000. Parents and the kid should be in prison for a long time IMO, all their assets liquidated and split between the families of those that suffered losses.
“The kids an unconscionable ticking time bomb. How long until his next drunken atrocity.”
Someone should put a round between his eyes. Preferably a family member.
Same here.....
It was their choice.
Wow Joe that is creepy! Ritchie Rich’s evil twin brother.
I’m holding out for the family that did not settle. Maybe they will take the punk to court and get his butt put in a jail cell.
Sheese that is what all of them should have done. Then did what the Goldman’s did and turned around and sued the parents in Civil Court.

Alcoholism is really a “symptom” of some other issue. Whether it’s a depressive disorder or some other emotional or mental condition. I lived with an alcoholic girlfriend for about a year and I saw it up close. The right medication (Bipolar) went a long way to eliminating the physical need for it. That and spending some time in jail served to make her reach her “bottom”. After that I helped her get into a year long treatment program.
Today she is alive and doing well though she has to deal with the damage she did to her body over a 25 year span of drinking since she was 13 years old. She will be sober 4 years in August. We are no longer involved but are good friends and ultimately I’m glad to not be visiting her gravesite.
Drinking is the solution to alcoholics for every problem they ever face. The PROBLEMS are why we drink. I had to learn that the booze was only a temporary SOLUTION and the PROBLEMS usually came back even bigger than before. I’ve been sober since 1985.
I truly admire anyone who can overcome such a horrible addiction and get control of their life again. May you have a long and happy life of sobriety my friend.
Congrats VerySad!
That’s very difficult to beat. God be with you.
I’m afraid I’d take the payout and hire a hit man.
just disgusting. WHEN this kid kills someone else (and he will) I hope that the law is more just than this time around
Thanks for the supportive words. All I did was get too whipped to do it anymore and called on God. With His help and the 12 steps, I got better and started thinking a little more of myself. At the same time I figured out I wasn’t the center of the universe. I think they call that mixed emotions. Sorta’ like having your 16 year old daughter come home at 2 in the morning with a Gideon Bible.
The man who started AA, by the way, was led to God by a Christian.
