You are the more intellectually astute of the two and you didn’t get that I missed your point? Come on Lee. You keep chiding me yet never get to the point of explanation. Rather than astute that looks more like equivocation.

I think that their was a tipping point on the execution of Bruno. Heliocentrism did not help at that time in history.

Neil Degrasse Tyson is a very smart man, and a very engaging man. His strength is in communicating ideas so that they lay person can understand them.

His weakness is that he’s his own favorite person. A boor. Just won’t stop talking. Best in 10-12 minute doses on YouTube. Difficult to sit through for a long miniseries.

Your posts tend to continue to grow each time with additional information that that was not part of your original post.

Responding to larger posts tends to do that.

You are welcome for the dictionary definition as that is the accepted norm for defining words.

It's not a very good source for ecclesial vocabulary. Since we're talking about Church issues, a Church definition is more to the point.

You state the definition and then go on to validate what I had written concerning innocents being executed for heresy.

Let me go back and reread it... um no. Sorry. That's not what I said. Heretics cause sedition in the Church. It isn't surprising that they are their followers would receive a sentence worthy of the crime. Where did I say the Church executed innocents?

I do find it fascinating your continual inclusion of things that were not in your post.

It's called a conversation. Look that one up in Webster's! As the dialogue continues and ideas are exchanged, new ground can tend to be covered--especially to expound on previous points. You were the one who branched us into heresy, state-controlled religion, and self-policing ecclesial bodies. If you get to do it, why don't I?

I never said anything about an inquisition.

You'll have to forgive me if I read the usual charges against the Church in your assertion of the "thousands of common people" put to death by Her. I offered the Inquisition simply as a means for understanding Church mechanisms... and for seeing how it gets branded with the crimes of others in history.

Anyway have a nice day. We will agree to disagree.

I can agree to that! May God bless you. And please overlook my snarkiness... one shouldn't post when he's having a bad day. It was a good distraction. I admit to enjoying the fray.
