I had an extraordinary telephone conservation with my 86-year-old black dad, a lifelong Democrat and huge Obama fan. He called to ask me, "Is Obama anti-Christian?"
Dad has been a Christian pastor for over 50 years. I said, "Dad, I have been telling you about Obama's anti-Christian policies for the past five years." Dad replied, "And I have not been listening."
Dad confessed that he simply could not bring himself to go against a black man in the White House. I felt that dad was expressing the sentiments of many blacks of his era. I asked him to explain why he could not honestly assess our black president.
Dad became passionate. He said it was because of deep, deep scars he suffered at the hands of white people. Dad said, "I don't hate white people, but my scars run very deep calling me a n***** and rubbing my head for luck."

. . . I felt emboldened to challenge Dad regarding this sensitive issue. I said, "Dad, once you know the truth about Obama, which loyalty will reign supreme? Will it be your loyalty to a fellow black man or your commitment to Jesus Christ?"
Dad chuckled and replied without hesitation, "It will be to Jesus Christ."

You know, the author of this article, Lloyd Marcus, is a wonderful Tea-Party activist.
And his dad made it clear at the end of the article that now that he was awake as to Obama and his Anti-Christian policies, his loyalty was to Christ first.
The posters on this thread should give consideration to that.
There are a lot of people who are seeing the light, now that obama’s style has become evident.. and the destruction is happening. But... they believed him and voted for him.. and his skin color. That is where the damage was done... in that vote. IF they had not been so blind with his skin color, they could have kept him out of the office for a second term. I don’t give them any credit for their change of mind NOW... it’s too late to undo what is now happening.
We are now reaping the consequences of their vote.
It’s nice that the man has chosen Jesus Christ... but he is a little late for the country right now. It’s being destroyed.. and there are still 2+ more years to go.
Thanks to their allegiance to the color of his skin.
Well, yeah. I don't think most White "christians" will confront this conundrum at all. As seen in a majority of the responses to this article. Tells you about what kind of "christians" populate this web site. Hey?
Read what John The Beloved says about agape re one's brothers. Or even what the Messiach, Jesus The Christ, says about sovereignly preferring one's neighbor above self and others. Shame.
Would you have supported McCain or Romney?
I wouldn't, and didn"t. But I have supported my Flag, Old Glory, which stands for one Republic, under The God, indivisible, and with liberty and justice for all over whom it flies, whether they like it or not.
And I've proved it, through all my life.
you are so right. But his color made him and his wife saints...sad.
Thank you. I grew up Southern and white in the 50’s and 60’s. I can only imagine what it would have been like a generation earlier and if I had been black. It would be good for posters who haven’t done so to actually read the son’s article. We are all affected by the circumstances of our lives; this man lived through experiences that would make any of us fearful, resentful, and suspicious. I suspect the fact that he doesn’t “hate” whites is due to the fact that he is intelligent and honest enough to know that not all whites behave/believe the way those who mistreated him did - but I also imagine that it’s due in no small part to his love for Christ who teaches us to love our enemies.
This man loves and served his country. He loves and provided for his family. He professes Christ as His Savior.
It also might be worth considering the beliefs and principles his son holds - they also certainly speak to the influence of his father’s character.
Pastor Marcus is willing to consider the evidence that he made a poor choice in supporting Obama. With his life experience and at his age, I think that’s admirable.
There was a news article here in Atlanta a few years ago. A black church with their black pastor, invited a man to speak to the congregation. He was promoting an investment opportunity to anyone who wanted to invest into his plan. The black pastor stood behind this man and promoted him as an honest investor.
With the pastor’s endorsement, many in the congregation invested their savings with the man. Down the road, they lost everything. The man was a crook.
At the end of the news article, they asked if these persons had left the church. Not a one had.
They had 2 of the men who lost all their savings, on the news program that was telling the story. They received no help nor any of their savings back... yet they stayed under that pastor.
Why?
Some black thugs did more to me and my family than calling me a name and rubbing my head for luck. Should I hold all black people responsible for those incidents?
Misused “don’t touch the anointed one” (David not harming Saul) misapplied to Church leadership. See Hebrews 13, for a couple of verses re “them that have the rule over you,” grossly misinterpreted to support this error. There is, unfortunately, a lot of it in both independent and in denominational church structures. And in the Army. And in the police, etc. wherever you have a dominant leader required.
Conveniently ignored by most phony carnal professors to Lordship by Christ.
I would hope he has changed his weltanshauung and his preaching, but it is still a country of free opinion, is it not? I dunno.
Yah. Accurate observation. I learned a long time ago that one of the most dangerous entities on earth is the Devil with a Bible in his hands. Especially a NIV or other "dynamically translated" tome out of the Westcont &Hort/Nestle-Aland/ UBS critical Greek synthetic text.
I can be glad that he is coming around, but I can’t excuse the racist attitude that led to him supporting Zero in the first place. Sorry, but you don’t get a pass on racism, no matter which direction it goes.
As a Northerne, neither have I. But, going forward, I intend to be very careful how I demonstrate affection to these little children at my church. I had no idea of this sensitive issue.
yup.
considering how the southern democrats treated them rubbing their head for “luck” just wouldn’t make sense to me. they were very unlucky, imo.
same thing with rabbits’ feet. those rabbits were hardly lucky.
I understand the man’s loyalty to Obama. I saw the same loyalty to an Irish Catholic democrat in my family and the reality of JFK was never really enough to change that undying loyalty.
re: The FReepers Definition of Conservative: I’m not sure, but whatever it is, it sure as hell aint YOU!!!
Unfortunately, what you have said is totally true. While the democrats unite and win elections, we lose them over and over again because nobody is perfect enough. In fact, I am convinced that even if Jesus ran on the Republican ticket, a whole host of uphappy freepers would find fault with Him. And then those same unhappy freepers would stay home on election day - and be damn proud that they did! And the democrats would win again and push forth their destructive agenda.
