D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. appears to be building its seasonal beer brand.
The Pottsville-based brewer will be releasing a new seasonal beer, Summer Wheat Traditional Weizen Beer in April.
It is the third beer in Yuengling's seasonal lineup which includes Bock in the spring and Oktoberfest in the fall.
The Summer Wheat is brewed with a combination of wheat and barley malts. A Hallertau hops and Bavarian-style top fermenting yeast will deliver a thick, creamy head with overtones of banana and clove, according to a press release.
The authentic German Weizen style beer will boast a slight hazy appearance but have a crisp finish.
Owner Dick Yuengling was inspired to create the beer several years ago after a trip to Germany, said Jen Holtzman, Yuengling's spokeswoman.
"Yuengling does not frequently introduce new beers or packaging configurations, so it is something that was considered carefully," she said.
Building a full seasonal line is ideal from the sales side of the business but it also provides greater exposure to new customers and creates more Yuengling fans, Holtzman said.
In 2009, Yuengling rebrewed its Bock for the first time in 40 years.
Too late we just picked up a six pack of Yuenling Black and Tan. Mmmmmm!
