Competitive high school ice fishing. Who woulda thought?
In Wisconsin, it's a growing sport, complete with rankings, trophies, a state tournament, cheers and, yep, team uniforms.
Not officially sanctioned as a varsity sport, the activity is growing in popularity in western Wisconsin four years after starting up as a way for teams to square off against schools in eastern Wisconsin during the statewide championship planned for Saturday on Lake Winnebago.
The championship will be the eighth and final event of the season for the state circuit, which remains loosely affiliated under the unofficial direction of activities directors and coaches, some on staff and many volunteers.

With armaments? .45s would make for great sport!

Heated Ice Shanty, Beer, Satellite TV, Flat screen TV’s
We’re not talking about your posting habits on FR ;-P
How does the ice not melt with a heated shanty? Sorry, southern gal here.
Ice melt?? You heard about the three Yankees who drowned frying the ice?
Purely recreational.
No I’ve built fires on the ice. The radiant heat melts a couple of inches but wood above that burns fine.
Shanty floors are usually a couple of inches off the ice and the heat from a propane lantern isn’t enough to cause much melting.
Near record trout caught through the ice. Fish comes up at about 4:40
