How does the ice not melt with a heated shanty? Sorry, southern gal here.

No I’ve built fires on the ice. The radiant heat melts a couple of inches but wood above that burns fine.

Shanty floors are usually a couple of inches off the ice and the heat from a propane lantern isn’t enough to cause much melting.

Its on runners or wheels on the ice like a sled and is dragged out there by snowmobiles and 4 wheelers

Heat rises. It can be very comfy above at and the “floor” will still be below freezing temperature.
