OTTAWA - The U.S. president now owes Prime Minister Stephen Harper two cases of beer Samuel Adams brand, specifically.
The friendly bet was made earlier in the week in Mexico, where the two leaders met for the North American Leaders' Summit.
After the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team came back to tie their Yankee rivals in the last minute of the game and win the gold in overtime, Harper announced via Twitter he was looking forward to his case of beer from Barack Obama. After the Canadian men's Olympic team defeated their American rivals Friday in a 1-0 shutout, Harper tweeted: "Like I said, #teamusa is good but #wearewinter." Then, to Obama, he said: "I look forward to my two cases of beer."
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Twitter: "Making good on my promise: case of @SamuelAdamsBeer on the way."
Canada was quiet between noon and about 2:30 p.m. Friday during the game. Even the Toronto Stock Exchange showed significantly lower than normal activity.
The country that calls hockey its national religion will likely come close to a standstill Sunday when Team Canada plays Sweden for the gold.
The only Canadian apparently not overly interested or invested in our national sport was Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair, who spent game-time talking "affordability" in Fort McMurray, Alta.
"This week we've taken our affordability tour to Richmond, B.C., the B.C. interior and Fort McMurray," Mulcair's aide, George Smith told QMI Agency. "Here's hoping our men's hockey team will follow the women's success."
Smith said the game was on in the background.
Like I said, #teamusa is good but #wearewinter. @BarackObama, I look forward to my two cases of beer. #CANvsUSA #Sochi2014

I don't know. Something tells me he loves to be back checked, in a manner of speaking....
I’d be straining the leash if I were the dog, too. The guy at the other end looks hungry.
They would probably even be more respectful towards Jimmy Carter.
0bama can name just as many Blckhawks as he can White Sox, his favorite baseball team.
.Nope, too many honkies. I'm sure he considers it a racist sport.
soebarkah will send him a copy of his speeches.
will Hussein personally pay for this case of beer? or will he charge it to the taxpayers?
one guess folks..
p.s. does Hussein pay for anything? just wondering
Come think of it
I think hockey is too “butch” for this President he don’t seem the rough and touch sport guy if you know what I mean
I think hockey is too rough for him
I remember that they really drown out the singer voice
And what about Justin Bieber? Did Harper say we had to keep him?
Guess they threw the game against Finland, too.
Most gutless thing I’ve ever seen. The perfect personification of Obama’s America.
Like the old Iraq and n. Korea, they may end up finding out what happens in tyrannical dictatorship when Olympians fail to bring glory to the fatherland. You don't embarrass a Hussein and get away with it...
I wonder how Obama react to 1970s Flyers
They kick everybody butt LOL!
