A Georgia family is in shock following the death of their 17-year-old son, who was accidentally killed by a police officer who believed the video game controller he was holding was a gun, according to the familys lawyer.
Christopher Roupe of Euharlee, Georgia heard a knock at the door of the familys home last Friday night. Upon opening the door, he was immediately shot by a female police officer.
Roupe was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
The officer broke down it tears upon realizing her mistake, according to The New York Daily News.
She had been making a probation-related visit to the home. She thought Roupe was holding a gun, according to a statement from the police department.
Cole Law, the familys attorney, said he believes that the officer did mistake Roupes video game controller for a weapon. Roupe was holding a remote controller for the Nintendo Wii when he opened the door, according to Law.
Standard-issue Wii controllers are white cylinders, but specialty controllers shaped like guns do exist. It is not yet known what type of controller Roupe possessed. (RELATED: Update: Texas teen faces 8 years in prison over Facebook comment)
Neighbors confirmed that Roupe had a Wii controller, not a gun, according to Law.
The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand, said Law, according to WSB-TV. He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest.
Roupe had plans to enlist in the Marines after finishing high school. He was involved in the ROTC program at his high school.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the police department investigates the matter. The family will likely file suit against the department.

I don’t see any guns in that...oh wait...never mind.
“Im amazed he was only shot once.”
The fact that the victim was only shot once probably is due to this being an accidental shooting consequent to the following:
1. Poor training in that this Dickless Tracy had her gun out of holster.
2. Said Dickless Tracy had her finger inside the trigger guard and on the bang switch.
3. Target identification training was grossly inadequate.
4. Female police, AKA Dickless Tracys are prone to firearm use due to small size and inability to deal with a physical confrontation.
For the above reasons the pool widdle famle OfficerPerson probably didn’t intend to shoot her gun.
If she had, she was almost certainly trained to empty the magazine.
Convict her for manslaughter and see that she serves hard time in the prison general population, not some “Club Fed” country club prison.
The eral lesson to be learned from this needless tragedy is the danger to the public of female officers being allowed to play SWAT style “Armed & Dangerou” militarized cop.
I must point out that the name and race of the shooter was not released. Was this because she is black?
Could the Police Chief be withholding her name because of some personal reason?

Agreed.
Let’s see, life in prison or millions of dollars....not sure....thinking prison.
What is the officer’s name? Shouldn’t that be reported as well?
Bingo. That was my first thought. Plus .. the controller doesn’t even look like a gun.
You won’t hear that from me. I’m no cop hater as many here are. But I don’t believe they have the right to kill anyone who isn’t posing a clear and imminent danger to them or to someone else.
I guess it was one of these pubic servants (pictured or not pictured) : http://www.euharleepolice.com/about.html
Four of those targets are women. Two are children. All white. No men.
“why did they have to point out that the cop was a woman?....”
Maybe because women should not be cops...nor Marines...
In this case should be charged with Murder...
Do you really believe this?
Dunn told his girlfriend about the incident immediately. He never told her about any shotgun.
The next morning, he told the police about the incident. He didn't tell them about any shotgun.
Dunn then met with an attorney. He embellished his story and claimed he saw a shotgun.
I think the shotgun was as real as the flag Sheila Jackson-Lee says Neil Armstrong planted on Mars.
I’m not a cop hater.
Back later for your links
Imho, this cop was afraid, and killed a young man as a result. Was it because she is a woman? It’s very possible.
Interesting that the pictures of two cops, Beth and Kisha, those pictures are missing. Why would that be?
We'll get used to it... :-(
Because female cops are killers, and please don't ask the media to keep censoring the news.
As Ann Coulter wrote. "It turns out that, far from "de-escalating force" through their superior listening skills, female law enforcement officers vastly are more likely to shoot civilians than their male counterparts. (Especially when perps won't reveal where they bought a particularly darling pair of shoes.)
Unable to use intermediate force, like a bop on the nose, female officers quickly go to fatal force. According to Lott's analysis, each 1 percent increase in the number of white female officers in a police force increases the number of shootings of civilians by 2.7 percent.
Adding males to a police force decreases the number of civilians accidentally shot by police. Adding black males decreases civilian shootings by police even more. By contrast, adding white female officers increases accidental shootings. (And for my Handgun Control Inc. readers: Private citizens are much less likely to accidentally shoot someone than are the police, presumably because they do not have to approach the suspect and make an arrest.)
In addition to accidentally shooting people, female law enforcement officers are also more likely to be assaulted than male officers as the whole country saw in Atlanta last week. Lott says: "Increasing the number of female officers by 1 percentage point appears to increase the number of assaults on police by 15 percent to 19 percent."
In addition to the obvious explanations for why female cops are more likely to be assaulted and to accidentally shoot people such as that our society encourages girls to play with dolls there is also the fact that women are smaller and weaker than men.
In a study of public-safety officers not even the general population female officers were found to have 32 percent to 56 percent less upper body strength and 18 percent to 45 percent less lower body strength than male officers although their outfits were 43 percent more coordinated. (Here's the cite! Frank J. Landy, "Alternatives to Chronological Age in Determining Standards of Suitability for Public Safety Jobs," Technical Report, Vol. 1, Jan. 31, 1992.)
So what do we do about it? Seriously. Who do we appeal to?
Poor kid. RIP.
It’s almost getting to the point where people are going to have to shoot cops on sight just to feel safe.
