Today, the 2014 inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced. Among those being inducted were KISS, Hall & Oates, Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, and Linda Ronstadt.
However, one inductee just ruined the whole thing for me: Cat Stevens, or...as he prefers to be known now...Yusef Islam.
How could the RRHOF make such a grievous error? Do they not know that the evil cult that he supports who have them all executed for the very thing that they personify?
Over 50% chance he was murdered.
Whether he was or not isn’t my point. He was iconified because he died young. He was a horrible actor and couldn’t drive for squat.
What blew my mind was that Tull was inducted as “Heavy Metal” act.... wha?
I was talking about Cobain. As for Dean, yes, poor actor. I don’t know about his driving, except for his demise.
Another reason not to go to Cleveland.
What about Joey Dee & the Starliters?
What about Ernie Maresca?
I know that George Soros is busy in Ukraine (as I’ve learned here), so who’s chosen the nominees this time, the Rothchilds?
Cobain fans have trotted out the theory since day 1. Possible? Sure it’s possible. But you had a clinically depressed guy with a severe intestinal disorder (that I happen to share a version of) that results in constant agonizing pain. Thus he self medicated a LOT instead of getting the treatment he needed to stay on the road.
Which, thanks to his depression, he hated. He was not buddies with the other two either and that didn’t help.
Courtney could have made far more cash had he lived and milked him.
So if he was murdered, well, he was headed down a suicidal path anyway. He was not long for the world one way or the other. Sad but that was the reality.
Until Vengaboys are inducted, there will be no justice or peace...
I agree. I like Linda Ronstadt but she wasn’t rock and roll. Kiss was a mediocre band that would have never done anything without the makeup. Nirvana wasn’t incredible or anything but they did create a temporary genre of music called grunge rock that lasted for a bit. Like em or hate em — they did have some impact on rock and roll.
Although I will say that a real and roll hall of fame should not feel compelled each year to have to induct bands. It should be an exclusive club or otherwise it is meaningless. As it is the R&RHoF is full of mediocre acts
I thought Joanie loved Chacci?
There is a more colloquial of saying it. See my post #49
“The only one on that list that is truly deserving is Nirvana.”
Kiss belongs there. Nirvana was short lived but they did usher in the Grunge period, earning them a spot. Hall & Oates? Had some number ones, but they were pop music.
The place should be renamed the Music Hall Of Fame.
I don’t find Cat Steven’s, err, Jusef Islam’s music rocky or rolly. Pretty boilerplate folky 60 crap. Aside from “Cat’s in the Cradle” can anyone say one song?
More disturbing is the communist loving thunderjerk Pete Seeger is being nominated for a Nobel peace prize.
Chicago is still waiting.
This place is just as laffable as the Nobel Peace Farce.
