Mad Men fans know women took a lot of sexist hits in the past when it came to advertising. Here’s a look at some of those cringe-worthy classics from the automobile world, along with some others that might make you question whether the good old days were always so good.

Pushbutton Automobile--The Medallions (1956)
The Medallions did a few car songs, 59 Buick was one of their biggest hits, they even did a song about a Volvo!. Perhaps they gave the inspiration to the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, etc. for 409, Dead Man's Curve, Little Deuce Coupe, etc.

That early episode with littering showed me the hipster fags and mandal chicks writing that drivel were not there
I would think that the level of sexual harassment that went on in business exec's offices back then was exaggerated. Surely these guys would've kept their horniness in check, at least to some extent, if for no other reason they would rather not deal with the fathers, brothers, boyfriends, husbands of these cute secretaries they may have the hots for. Defending the honor of the "womenfolk" meant something back then. Thanks feminazis.

Perhaps the Medallions did inspire the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. The Medallions were from Los Angeles and the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean were from nearby Hawthorne and Westwood, respecitively. The Medallions were popular in the LA area as were several artists on their label, Dootone.

I’ve seen Vernon Green, the Medallions’ lead singer perform on two or three occasions. He would walk with a cane—I heard that he had been crippled by an attack of poliomyelitis. The last time I saw him perform, he was in a wheelchair. This was in the late 1990’s, shortly before his death in 2000.

Mad Men....never watched it, but I had a feeling just from the commercials. The only thing that would interest me would be the fashions.

Even The Walking Dead had to go and introduce a lesbian character.

I even brought that up, but it didn’t go over well.

Interesting history from the Dootone studios. Eath Angel by The Penguins, the Drifters recorded their early stuff there. Also Red Foxx’s first album, considered “blue comedy”, still a little edgy and risqué 60 yrs later.
