Quinn and Rose are off the air, (temporarily, I hope!) Gone, but DEFINITELY not forgotten! Meanwhile, our friendly group of dedicated FReeper Q&R fans will meet in our usual spot - same time, same station - as we always have! So grab your coffee - or whatever you choose to start your day - and drop in for some political chit-chat, or just to shoot the breeze! We are all coming from - or going to - work, but we all stop in to say hi! Feel free to join us!
Snap!
Mornin’ everybuddy!
Best perk for the prez...he can do anything he wants.
Oh and because of Onocare ladies can work on the farm!
Morning back at ya! ‘Waiting for the ice storms to hit Atlanta today. No power no internet. My hands are trembling at just the thought.
Morning! Yeah, got up at 2:00 and can’t get back to sleep. I awoke worrying about the baby shower I’m having for DIL. I need to get help with it. I think I’ll take my nieces up on their offer to help. I wake up remembering details I forgot. I’m glad it’s three weeks away.
Oh, and it’s good to know that I can drop the silly thing called a JOB! I can take up that sheep-to-shawl thing that I saw at the Pa Farm Show. Looked interesting. This getting up and going to work thingy is getting dull anyway and I can’t really express my true self. Thank you, thank you, thank you Obama! How much I’ve missed!!!
I’m off to find myself now. If I find me, I’ll let me know!
Three weeks?! They will fly by!
Holy moly! Do you have an alternative heating source? Make sure everything is charged up (cell phones, etc). Snow is bad, ice is way way worse!!! We purchased a propane heater last fall. It keeps the living room nice and toasty. We have it hooked up to the propane can for the grill. It’s come in handy more than once this year! I think we’re getting a 100 lb propane tank for next year.
It’s pretty bad when I wake up thinking that I forgot jelly beans for the “guess how many jelly beans in the jar” game and the pencils for the “Baby Bingo”
Maybe we’ll just skip the dumb games and EAT! I admit I can’t stand those silly shower games! lol! Of course, women really really like those game prizes! Stuff they normally wouldn’t buy given the choice. It’s quite funny really.
OK, I’m yawning again. Time to try to get a few more hours sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. :-(
We have a kerosene heater still in the box(and even kerosene). Although we probably should have read the directions before now. Another small propane heater and a propane stove. We’re tucked onto the back of a subdivision down a long, steep hill that would rival a lot in South Hills and when the power is lost we’re usually one of the last to be restored. Fortunately, when we got snowed in in 2011, we didn’t lose power and by the 4th day, all the neighbors got together and dug out the subdivision. ‘Just keeping our fingers crossed the ice doesn’t bring down any trees here.
If you haven't used one before MAKE SURE YOU READ ABOUT SETTING THE FLAME HEIGHT!
In my house nothing said the beginning of the holidays like the smell of kerosene, LOL.
Thanks for those tips! I don’t ever remember losing power growing up in Baldwin and I don’t think my family ever had a plan “B”.
Also if you haven’t used a kero heater...every two or three cycles burn the tank empty. Take it OUTSIDE when you do. That keeps tar from building up, clogging the wick and making smell as well as CO.
IIRC knarf is very knowledgable about kero heaters. I grew up with them and smudge pots too so a lot is second nature to me. I also take risks that most people shouldn’t do like letting them burn overnight.
When I did that I had a monitor and kept a window cracked.
All in all I really enjoyed my kero heaters...the cheery glow, flickering flame and the warmth.
Mrs p6 and the kids not so much...
When the kids left and mrs p6 and I moved to an apartment I left maybe six kero heaters behind.
I'm about as knowledgeable and dangerous as you.
What's to "know" about a kero heater ... it's a glorified candle, a large model hurricane lamp.
Amen on the warm glow and etcetera's.
We're blessed with rural living and a glass front wood burner supplimenting the fuel oil furnace.
It's 10 outside and 72 in ... coffee by my side and FR in front ... mama's still abed and here I am in my thunderwear ... talkin' 'bout how to stay warm.
Good morning n’@!
A quick (and easy!) alternative to Baby Shower (or any type of shower) game is to set a timer (your cell phone has one) and set it to go “off” every so many minutes...whose ever present is being opened at that time get a gift...and center pieces make great “grand prizes” (mark the bottom of the dessert paper to determine the winner).
My “worry” isn’t til August when I have DIL to bes shower (I have the small one...her bridesmaids are doing the BIG one in her hometown).
Have they closed down ATL yet? Businesses, schools, etc. sounds like YOU are ready...and try and “enjoy” the down time. Fingers crossed you don’t lose power:)
Glass front fireplace...oh how I miss that!
Oldest son has one..built too hot a fire last fall and broke the glass in one section. Eagle and Order of the Arrow Scout should know better!
Since I just got home I’m sauteeing some pierogies and onions. Working constant nightshift makes a person strange, lol!
What a great idea!!! I have three centerpieces to give away!
Ugh! -2 here right now. We were -6 awhile ago.
I'm retired big truck driver ... been out for 4 years and I still have no regular sleep schedule.
I think of Q&R a lot, because they are conditioned to having an odd work day and now ....
Y'jes' don't shut that stuff off like tap water.
