Biggest cockfighting bust in New York history nets 3,000 birds

Nine people were arrested and some 3,000 fighting roosters and hens rescued when New York authorities busted a cockfighting ring they said was one of the biggest ever uncovered in the United States.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the arrests and said in a statement: "Cockfighting is a cruel, abusive and barbaric practice that tortures animals, endangers the health and safety of the public and is known to facilitate other crimes."

The Russians used to run underground bare knuckle fight clubs in Coney Island. It was big in the 80s and 90s and probably continues today.

They'd pay people (mostly homeless) about $100-200 per fight so there was never a shortage of challengers.

Why are the authorities involved in disrupting one of the pinions of our diverse culture? How can multiculturally rich, undocumented citizens express themselves by their unique activities if the so-called enforcers of the so-called law step on the undocumented citizen's liberties? I smell a law suit.

If we graciously allow these vibrant people to vote and drive on our roads, how dare we quell their passion for their native recreations and sport?
