But what if Granger was Stewart Granger(”The Prisoner of Zenda” and “Scaramouche”)?
Great plot....I liked the version with Jane Seymour, better, though...
Just me-—never was a fan of “Ashley” (Howard)-—he always seemed so weak-willed to me after “Gone with the Wind”. He always is this “dreamer”-—foppish dandy, and so he didn’t work as the Scarlet Pimpernel, who wasn’t that way.
Always loved Jane Seymour(one of my favorite Bond girls). I think the 1982 remake combined “The Scarlet Pimpernel” with another one of Baroness Orczy’s novels so we saw more of Percy’s courtship of Marguerite.
Sink me!
FYI..if you can manage to find it, the original novel is a good read..
Excellent! I’ve wanted to see this one for ages. Bookmarked for later!
This was my favorite version too with Anthony Andrews as Percy.
Oh my the costuming was spectacular!
And, in fact, the Scarlet Pimpernel has the distinction of being the first masked hero with a secret identity. Before Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and even Don Diego de la Vega, there was Sir Percy.
Excellent!
Have you seen “The Scarlet and the Black”? It’s about the “Scarlet Pimpernel” of the Vatican in WWII Italy.
Leslie Howard was wonderfully foppish in this one. Some great 1930s adventure and intrigue!
“But what if Granger was Stewart Granger(The Prisoner of Zenda and Scaramouche)?”
Not having seen either movie, I have no idea.
Thank you!
In rewatching this again myself, I have to give kudos to the film’s two beautiful leading ladies: Merle Oberon(who I like here more than in her most famous role as Cathy in “Wuthering Heights”) and Joan Gardner as Suzanne. Miss Gardner was quite a stunner. I read on imdb she only made 14 films back in the 1930s and retired to become a wife and mother.
You’re welcome! It’s a great film with a great story.
After you’re finished, I recommend then watching the Looney Tunes spoof-

No! But I would LOVE to...Thanks for the heads-up!!!! I will look it up now.
It was one of my favorite Romance movies after Robin Hood with Errol Flynn-—Loved it!
Just got through watching it on youtube.
It is a fine motion picture — they don’t make them like that anymore.
Lol! Thanks again!
Here’s a suggestion for your next “Movie for a Sunday Afternoon”
It is a movie rarely shown these days — probably because of its strong pro-life message.
The Bluebird (1940) starring the late Shirley Temple
