Help me out here, I haven’t followed this, was the victim a minority?

White guy. Sorry if that disappoints.

I knew he was shot in the chest along with the bullet first passing through his wife’s hand. Prior to hearing it online, I figured that was the only way the incident made sense to trigger a self defense action. Now it seems, the wife’s hand was there to restrain her husband, not protect him. No one saw the gun until after the shot.

Reeves responded by pointing his finger at her and saying, according to Hamilton, "You shut your f**king mouth and don't say another word."

Well I'm sure being married to him was a real treat.

He was on automatic.

He never pulled and shot his weapon in 30 years of law enforcement -- so then how could that have been automatic???

How do you know that? It's just as likely she was trying to push him away from where the gun was pointing.

You can try and justify it all you want, Reeves shot and killed a man for no good reason. He deserves the murder charge he's had filed against him, and I don't think bail is appropriate for accused murderers.

I wonder if incidences of texting in theaters will go down?

That's not true according to her.

No one saw the gun until after the shot.

So now you are drawing conclusions before the wife gets to testify???

What makes you think that SHE did not see the gun just before it was fired??

Leaping to unwarranted conclusions can sometimes become a Power of Habit -- but it can be resisted.

There’s conflicting articles about why the bullet passed through the wife’s hand. I put that down to a journalist trying to explain why it happened. It goes right along with the report of the gun jamming which, so far, doesn’t seem to be backed up by the deputy who took the .380 and unloaded it.

What I’m seeing is people including those present and involved trying to explain in their own minds what happened. That came across in the police interview of both the retired cop and his wife. The old guy didn’t have the gun out just waiting for a chance to exercise his itchy trigger finger.

I’ve been trying to do a walk through since the incident. It’s striking that witnesses describe what happened as either in the blink of an eye, or very, very fast. Murder two requires having a depraved mind. The man’s history disproves that. At worse he’s guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Cops are required to train with their firearms. One of the oddities about habit was cops were getting shot by the bad guys because they stopped to pick up their brass before reloading in a gun fight. Turned out that cops were always required to do that at the range. Picking up brass as housekeeping on the range became a habit which got cops killed later.

Please cite cases when cops were killed while picking up their brass.

Thanks for asking! Turns out I am wrong. It’s anecdotal at best. Here’s a link.

“The bottom line is this: there are no verifiable incidents of dead officers being found with revolver brass in their pockets after a gunfight. The next time someone tries to use this saw to “prove” some point about “bad muscle memory”, just drop some facts on them. Ask them where they heard it. Get sources, get sites. Don’t let bad information go unchallenged.”

Murder two requires having a depraved mind. The man’s history disproves that.

What it says is "evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life..." Reeves own actions before and after the murder support that. He shot and killed a man in cold blood without justifiable circumstances. Then cooked up the self-defense story.

Well the one thing it indicates is that he was pretty much standing up on his side of the seat when the shot was fired and not climbing over the seat as the Reeves' claimed in their statement.

Carrying a weapon puts some responsibilities upon one - like not getting so passionately involved in such a petty situation and being the main ignition for it escalating into a killing.

^^^^THIS^^^^ is why he should be found guilty and why self defense is a no-go argument. Don't want none, don't start none.

But I also think Oulsen's bad manners contributed to his own death. Good manners are free, easy to use and can save your life.

In my opinion, the theater surveillance video shows Reeves kicking the victim’s seat, the victim then standing up, turning around, grabbing Reeves popcorn and throwing at him. Reeves then quickly lifting his arm and shooting.
