Fjeldstad said the man, dressed only in a pair of ragged underpants, claims he left Mexico for El Salvador in September 2012 with a companion who died at sea several months ago. Details of his survival are sketchy, Fjeldstad added, as the man only speaks Spanish, but he said his name was Jose Ivan.

What kind of name is Jose IVAN?
I couldn’t imagine the torment of being dehydrated and thirsty while being surrounded by undrinkable water as far as the eye can see. I’ve heard if one DOES drink too much ocean water, they’ll be dead from it within a few hours.
“details are sketchy because he only speaks Spanish”. I did not know Spanish was a dead language.
Damn you, sir! You’ve stolen my thunder!
(or...later in the evening after my namesake Zin has been opened. :) )
believe it or not, many Europeans have migrated to Mexico though out history... not just the Spaniards (Spanish)... but Russians, Germans, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, etc... ever notice how Mexican music sounds like a German polka?
His name was Jose Felipe. His friend’s name was Ivan...but he forgot his last name.
Yea, I know. Just seems weird.
he is in the South Pacific... Ebon Atoll... they speak a Malayo-Polynesian language there... sounds like a very small island with limited resources... i am assuming there are not a people of world travelers... but i could be wrong...
Thats totally insane! I had no comprehension of how big the earth was until I had to spend time in Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.
I hope this guys gets to feeling good enough to know how lucky he is to be alive.
Details are sketchy? WTF? Doesn’t anyone down there have a smartphone with google translate?
someone named Jose' Felipe from Mexico has a friend named Ivan? how weird is that? where is Ivan from? surely not Mexico... i'm sorry... just kidding :)
How long did it take for him to ‘devour’ his friend.
“I know he won’t mind, I would have expected him to use me to keep him alive if I had died”.
Sounds like a made for TV movie here....Gilligan etal stretched a 3 hour tour into a couple of years of TV and a lifetime of (good) notoriety.. <: <:
Like someone previously had said “You know you are old when watching Gilligan reruns you notice how good “Luvey” is looking”.
My insurance agent is Basque. Born in Mexico.
Take it easy , now. Remember, this guy still thinks that he can have any doctor/medical insurance he wants as soon as he gets to the U.S., ....so he’s got some catching up to do.
One would have thought they spoke Ebonics.
This story pegs the BS meter for me.
To be part of “the race”? Still curious as to how folks with Spanish ancestors are a “race”. I guess I must be “Dutchish” then. Where’s my special dispensation? How quick will this guy be declared an “illegal immigrant” and sent back home? Where’s ICE? Where’s john f’n kerry-heinz?
