A woman died Thursday morning after her scarf got caught in the escalator at the Fabre Metro station in Montreal.
The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. ET at an unsupervised, automatic entrance to the Metro station on the blue line.
"She got strangled and the woman, aged around 30, passed away on scene, said Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant of the Montreal police.
A witness told investigators that the woman's hair also got caught in the escalator after she bent down in an attempt to dislodge her scarf.

Oh, that poor woman. RIP
Is there any back story on her? she was adjusting to “normal” life after a 2 year backpacking expedition, or something ??
Very sad. I always carry a sharp folding knife... Not saying someone with a knife would have saved her, but it would have been worth a try...
Was Justin Bieber involved?
A Final Destination story ,,, maybe
I am not sure what the investigation will show. A couple of days ago, I was headed down on an escalator and the person in front of me was playing with her Walkman device, not holding the handrail. Can’t this society go ten seconds without doing “LOL,” “OMG,” etc.? Nothing is that important.
Montreal Metro is a very efficient system, but some of the stations need some maintenance. And, it can be quite empty in some during non-peak hours. Sad to see this woman perish like such
Horrible.
Probably illegal!
No one carries a knife in canada?
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” <—Whatever this person was to do in the way of service to others in this life was withdrawn in a manner reason cannot comprehend. LORD, have mercy on her, her family, and all of us who await the Last Day.
Yikes. RIP.
Fashion victim
I did just that on the DC metro escalator when a woman got the hem of her coat snagged in the combs. She was directly in front of me. It was eating her coat, dragging her down, and she didn’t have the presence of mind to just drop her arms and let the coat be taken off of her. She was flat on her back and slowly being squeezed as I flicked open my Spyderco Delica, and sliced the hem of her coat free of the combs with no effort, and just kept walking, as the crowd helped her to her feet. Nobody saw a thing.
This poor gal was defenceless! Take-away for me is, "stay the heck away from urban areas." Prayers for her and her family.
Well done sir! You never know when armed is dangerous or life saving.
