Amanda Knox was found guilty of murder today by an Italian court, the latest twist in a murder case that goes back to 2007.
The verdict reached by the two judges and six jurors came after several hours of deliberations at the Florence courthouse.
The judge sentenced Knox to 28 years in prison. Her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and co-defendant was sentenced to 25 years.
Two Italian judges and six jurors began deliberations earlier today. If Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are found guilty, the court is also expected to pronounce a prison sentence.
The prosecutor has asked for a 26 prison term for the murder for Knox and Sollecito, plus another four years for Knox on a related libel conviction.
This is the fourth time Knox faced a verdict on the 2007 murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher while they were roommates in Perugia, Italy. Knox, now 26, and Sollecito, 29, were convicted in 2009.
After serving four years in prison they were freed in 2011 when an appeals court threw out the murder conviction. But Italy's supreme court ordered another appeals court to rehear the case. Kercher's sister Stephanie and brother Lyle were in the courtroom for the verdict.
Knox, who is sporting a new, short haircut, remained in her hometown of Seattle for the latest trial. Sollecito was in court today earlier today, but was not present for the verdict....

She was convicted of murder.
Wait, are you claiming Amanda Knox is some kind of a conservative?
Please explain why she lied and lied and lied and lied to the police.
Mignini is an absolute a-hole who should be rotting in prison himself. Filthy animal! Disgracia!!
Left-wing hell. I followed the case also, and I think she’s innocent. The exact same type of court that just said she was guilty again, found her innocent the last time around. Nothing at all had changed in the facts of the case. I served overseas 8 times and know full well how crooked the majority of the courts are in these backwards ass countries.
Yep, 4th time through on the same charges????
Why dont you volunteer your expertise to the Justice system here in the US?
Just think of the money that could be saved, we just parade the accused before you, you size them up guilty or innocent, and that would be the end of it.
You and Ann Coulter
Thank You, you said it well!!!
I hope you are never called for jury duty
I have no idea whether she is guilty or not, but in my mind there is no doubt at all that she has to be extradited to Italy should she be found guilty in the end.
Extradition between the US and Italy is regulated by a bilateral Extradition Treaty dating from 1983. According to Article I of this treaty “The Contracting Parties agree to extradite to each other, pursuant to the provisions of this Treaty, persons whom the authorities of the Requesting Party have charged with or foundguilty of an extraditable offense.” Needless to to say murder is an extraditable offense under this treaty.
Yes, double jeopardy is mentioned. Article reads as follows:
Extradition shall not be granted when the person sought has been convicted, acquitted or pardoned, or has served the sentence imposed, by the Requested Party for the same acts for which extradition is requested.”
So, if she had been acquitted in the US she could not be extradited tp Italy for the same crime. An acquittal by an Italian court does not prevent extradition.
In my view the US cannot refuse extradition without breach of treaty, which in turn would give the Italians every reason to do likewise.
In her initial statement, Amanda Knox said she had spent the entire night at Raffaele Sollecito's house. This was proven untrue by Amanda's phone and text records and by Sollecito's interview with the police.
After 36 hours of continuous interrogation by the police, Knox said her boss, Patrick Lumumba, was sexually interested in Meredith Kercher, so she accompanied him back to the apartment, where she stayed in another room while Lumumba went into Kercher's bedroom. Knox later retracted this statement, saying she was coerced by the police. Lumumba later successfully sued Knox for a libel-type action.
The guy serving the prison sentence is Rudy Guede.
That is an excellent book which should make anyone distrust the Italian judicial system.
That is an excellent book which should make anyone distrust the Italian judicial system.
It also has to go through our courts and the State Dept. There is more to it thsn a simple yes or no.
I haven’t followed this case very closely. But, I just watched an interview of Knox. She did not come across as genuine. I thought maybe that’s just her personality... But, now that Coulter article really makes her look guilty.
Just as the pro-Knox articles leave out the facts that make Knox look guilty, the Coulter article leaves out the facts that make Knox look innocent.
Based on the reaction to this by a lot of centerist and Liberal women I know, the GOP would be well served by aggressively questioning the Obama Administration on this, insisting that they go on the record on what they’ll do should an extradition request be made. They should demand that all other Democrats go on the record on the extradiction question as well.
It would flip the whole War on Women thing back onto Obama and the Dems.
Sounds like a perfect plan.
Go ahead, sunshine. While your at it, compare apples to oranges too.
