Jacob Williams, convicted in 2008 of driving drunk when he killed a motorcyclist and left a woman paralyzed, now faces an identical set of charges for allegedly killing another motorcyclist who happens to be the brother of the judge that sentenced Williams to prison in the earlier case.
Williams, 27, of Bosque in Valencia County, was charged Monday with driving drunk after his pickup veered over a center line, killing Daniel Sanchez, 51, and seriously injuring his 11-year-old daughter, Magen Sanchez.
Sanchezs brother, state District Court Judge William Sanchez of Los Lunas, presided in an April 2008 case in which Williams pleaded guilty to felony charges of vehicular homicide, great bodily harm by vehicle and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Sanchez sentenced Williams to the maximum six years in prison allowed under the plea agreement. After his sentencing, Williams was incarcerated from 2008 until he was paroled in May 2011... Williams returned to prison in July 2011 on a parole violation and remained incarcerated until he completed his sentence in July 2012.
The new charges against Williams are vehicular homicide, great bodily injury by vehicle and second-offense aggravated driving under the influence...

He got six (served three) years in prison.
true... i have family in NM... it is home to a lot of alcoholics... most people in my NM family drive big-a$$ trucks to be safer... my nephew (who had never even been to NM until his training) is a State Trooper in NM...
he didn't even serve six with an added parole violation... gross... i wonder if the violation had anything to do with his drinking... this is wrong...
I don’t wish harm on anyone except the drunk driver himself.
And in this case it does seem like the judge threw the book at the DWI offender previously. But still. In the majority of cases our courts are too easy on these criminals.
I often think that if the judges or their families were injured or killed by the low-lifes they set free - then what a payback that would be.
I live just barely off the Mescalero reservation. I think being drunk is required to start your car. (And my wife and step-son are Mescalero, so I know the tribe well.)
He must have been a bad inmate to have spent even that much in prison.

Hmmm...............what are the odds of that?

I doubt future defendants will get such lenient sentences.
It doesn’t matter what the law says or what the punishment is- unless the die hard drunk drivers are locked up they are going to drive and kill people. Doesn’t seem to matter how long they are locked up- when they get out they go right back to driving drunk.
I know people with multiple DWIs in my area that no matter what if they are out of jail they are driving drunk. Even if they have no vehicle they will steal one from a family member. One by me is even in terrible health, major heart problems, recently had a stroke. He is supposed to be in jail for DWI issues but was released because of all his health issues. He stole his ex-wife’s truck (guess he had keys she didn’t know about) and drove drunk. Last time he was picked up he was driving his son’s truck without permission. His family and the law cannot seem to keep him off the road and he is a man that has a DWI history going back nearly 40 years!
I was thinking the same thing...twice he has ran over motorcycles with female passengers? Sounds like he is a nut case on top of being a drunk driver.
So this piece of crap murdered someone and served 3 years?
What this time? An award?
