You know that you have quality control problems when Fiat standards are higher.
I’ve always been fascinated by how quickly the second-generation Dodge Intrepid appeared on the roads followed by how rapidly the cars disappeared. Funny stuff happened during the Daimler-Chrysler era . . .
I never have touched...and never *will* touch...a Chrysler *or* a Fiat product.

Always liked their wimen, real purdy they were.
Never did like their cars though. Their wiring color codes rarely matched the diagrams so we figured they just used whatever color they had hanging on the wall. Real PITA, even their high end stuff.
I think they have manufactured those for 5 or 6 years from 1998 to 2004. Technically similar to Chrysler Concorde and 300Ms.
The problem was a European designed 2.7 engine. They barely could survive k50 on US motor oil especially if it wasn’t changed regularly.
In Europe and Russia with better lubricants available and overall higher maintenance culture they were still common just a couple years ago.
Too bad Yugo wasn’t around to save them
Blame Clinton who bombed their HQ and plants at the time.

Fiat of today is nothing like the problem riddled product of the 60s and 70s. Drove a friends 500 and test drove an Abarth 500, good quality, fun little cars. The Abarth goes like stink.
Yep, it is better than earlier but still far from Japanese quality.

Yup, and GM pissed on the standards of the former SAAB auto.
Well, Saab was a relic by the time GM took over. I don’t know if it was an improvement or not.
Want to know how this is going to work out?
Just review the last few years of how Fiat is going to re-introduce the Alfa-Romeo to the American market.
Their old reputation, well earned, was beautiful cars, fun to drive but mechanically pieces of junk, built by folks who didn’t care.
