Surviving Socialism PinglistStories and tips with a financial emphasis to help conservatives SURVIVE and prosper during difficult times.
To be added or taken off this list, please send a FR mail to RKBA Democrat. FAIR WARNING, I'm one of the worst pinglist administrators on FR. I ping infrequently then I ping a lot. I forget to add people to the list. I disappear for months at a time when I get fed up with politics. But I do try to make sure that the articles pinged are worthy of your time. If you have an article tip, please send me a FRmail. Search the keyword "survivingsocialism" to see previous articles and pings.

Nearly every room in my house is decorated with tag sale tables, dressers, and lamps. I won’t pay very much so the quality isn’t great but they look like a million bucks to me — a few screws here or there, refinishing supplies, paint or stain, new knobs, a new lampshade... some are more work than others but I often think I’d like to shop tag sales and fix things to sell, for cheap, at a tag sale or two of my own — for people just starting out, kids rooms, etc. But then I heard I have to pay taxes on tag sale profits and the idea died...

"I go to thrift stores and garage sales and find textbooks and teacher books out on the tables," Trudy said. .... Trudy resells books online for about half of what they'd cost in stores. She makes a profit, and her customers get a bargain. That's surprising... Once, while buying a used textbook, the seller told me that textbooks do not sell well. She said they usually end up in the trash. I noticed at other used book sales, too, that textbooks (i.e. biology, chemistry, etc.) don't seem to sell. So, there are plenty of textbooks just sitting at these used book sales. They tend to sell for $0.50 to $1.00 around here. Many are in excellent condition, and sometimes they include unused computer CDs or access codes to academic websites.

I’ve seen the license-plate bird houses at our local DMV and they’re really attractive!
